Our last meetup fizzled out due to the tragic events in Touhoku, but summer's rolling around, so I thought it might be nice to have another (real one!)

Please reply if you're interested and chime in with what weekend(s) (probably a Saturday afternoon/evening) would be best for you! Let's aim for the first 20 days in July so we can avoid potential trips people might be taking towards the end.

no dice for me - between the JLPT, school 参観日 and yosakoi performances, I'm booked solid

2nd and third weekend are cool for me... seeing as the first weekend is JLPT  

I'm not taking the JLPT til Dec .

I have plans on the 2nd at night and I'll be gone from the 8th to the 22nd for a wedding in the States. （泣）

Totally wish I would have known about this site when i first came to Japan. But now I am leaving and wont be back till February =((((

Pick a date that's not on the JLPT day and I'll try and make it. Going for N1 this year.

Other than the JLPT, any weekend in July should be fine methinks.

Whoah, you live in Kochi? How weird is that. We've no doubt crossed paths at MYC a few times (three, to be exact), and I didn't even click. o.O I didn't realise there were still five year JETs around. Thought they had all moved on... but anyway, that's a discussion for another time and place.

Sorry Michael, Kochi is a bit far afield to get to Tokyo (especially when you live way out west), and I will likely have some serious family commitments come summer. Really wish I could make it, but I wish you guys all the best for working it out! Rock out in Tokyo! \n/ >.< \n/

I just danced at my yosakoi practice for the first real time in 3 months (recovering after a lower back injury) - woo!

Ah, I was under the mistaken impression that Yosakoi was a Kochi thing. Well, that sure answers a few questions.

Never been involved myself. Watching the floats and dancers is enough trauma. :p

nope - yosakoi is all over Japan - in fact, one of the three biggest yosakoi festivals is held in Sendai - the みちのくよさこい祭り in October - I'm so sad I'm not going to be able to dance in it again this year!

Although, there is some truth to it: yosakoi was originally made in Kouchi, which had the first Yosakoi matsuri ..I think it is 58 years ago. It is REALLY big in other areas of the country, though (thank goodness!).
