While reading, I've come across (じゃまもの) and saw in the dictionary that is can also be written as .

The only time I've seen it is referring to people, but my exposure to the term is very limited, so my question is:

In practice, are and interchangeable or is only used for people and is only used for objects ?

The kanji refers to "-person/perpetrator", combined with prefix terms, it becomes some-kind-of-person e.g. disruptive-person, bothersome-person.

The kanji refers to "-thing/object", combined with prefix terms, it becomes some-kind-of-thing e.g. bothersome-thing.
