Want to run your own event?

We welcome others who would like to run a VC event in the Discord server. Here's what happens:
  1. Use
    /event
to request an event. You'll give a date, category, and description.
  2. The community managers will approve or disapprove the event. If it is approved, it will appear in the server's event list, and those with @UserEvents will get notified.
  3. Use
    /event
to start the event and end it. All users will get XP for participating. The event manager will receive some kao garden money (10,000)!

Restrictions
  • You must be a member of the renshuu discord for at least a month, and have interacted with the server.
  • Once you have successfully run 2 events, all future events will be automatically approved.
  • You must choose from the listed categories available in the /event tool.
There are 3 types of roles available in the server.

Adventure level roles

These roles will change as your Kao-chan level goes up in renshuu. You must connect your renshuu account to Discord using the following command:
/link
Adventure Level Role
1-24 Kao-chan's acquaintance
25-49 Kao-chan's helper
50-74 Kao-chan's friend
75-99 Kao-chan's pal
100-199 Kao-chan's bestie
200-399 Kao-chan's soulmate
400-999 Kao-chan's twin
1000+ Kao-chan's clone

Japanese level roles

These roles will change as you study vocabulary in renshuu. You must connect your renshuu to discord using the
/link
command.
Role Icon Level
J Beginner 1 - Learning Hiragana
J Beginner 2 - Learning Katakana
J Beginner 3 - Learning Japanese Basics / JLPT N5
J Beginner 4 - Mostly finished with Beginner Japanese / JLPT N5
J Intermediate 1 - Learning JLPT N4
J Intermediate 2 - Mostly finished with JLPT N4
J Intermediate 3 - Learning JLPT N3
J Intermediate 4 - Mostly finished with JLPT N3
J Advanced 1 - Studying for JLPT N2
J Advanced 2 - Studying for JLPT N1
J Advanced 3 - ~10,000 words studied
J Advanced 4 - ~12,000 words studied
J Master 1 - ~15,000 words studied
J Master 2 - ~20,000 words studied
J Master 3 - ~30,000 words studied
J Master 4 - ~40,000 words studied
J Unknown - Haven't studied enough on renshuu to ascertain level

renshuu updates the roles once a week, and uses the following rules. If a role cannot be found with one rule, it checks the next rule.
  1. Find the highest role the user has studied 60% (or more).
  2. Find the highest role the user has studied 25% (or more). Give them the next role down.
  3. Find the highest role the user has studied 15% (or more). Give them the next role down.
  4. Give them the J Unknown role.

The percentages are obtained using the number of terms at that level plus terms at ALL higher levels. Ex. A user has studied 40% of N3 vocabulary and 10% of the higher N2 vocabulary, and 10% of N1 - they would be considered to have 60% of the N3 level.
At any time, you can use the
/jlevel
command in the Discord server to manually choose a level (or return to renshuu's levels if you previously used this command).

Club/sports roles

We use @Amaribot to measure participation (typing or talking) in the server. As you go up in level, you will be assigned typical clubs or sports found in Japanese schools. These clubs include バスケ (Basketball), (Broadcasting), (Calligraphy), and more!
@kaochan is our lovely bot made specifically for our Discord server. It has several server-specific commands as well as a number of Japanese-related commands.
