95% of the html is generated server side (php) - it's not anything even close to a "modern" stack where you've got most of the business logic in react js libraries, and it's "just" an api calling a db backend to run CRUD operations.
I wrote a huge chunk of renshuu when I was 22-25 years old, without any work experience with others re: programming/development. It's a mess, but it has worked for me so far.
With all due respect, I think it's important to recognize that there is no way to objectively say "it should be easy to do XX" about any code system without having intimate knowledge of that system. I'm reminded of the meme that is something like "I'd like you to add [insert some crazy battle system]" "Yea, I can do that this afternoon". "Also, I'd like to be able to change the color of the character's clothes" "Are you out of your mind?"
If I saw a reasonable path to even partial offline support given my (and my company's) constraints, I *absolutely would*. You're going to have to believe me when I say that this path does not exist. It would take, even for partial offline support, a huge amount of work, and then that does not even take into consideration the work it would take to support that new functionality, and update it as things in renshuu changes.
I've had so many people say "I cannot believe two people made renshuu" (in truth, only I have done the actual development, while my wife has been instrumental in so much of the content - this is why. I've made many decisions over the years - some good, some bad, some terrible, but these decisions have allowed us to run the company (largely) the way we want to: free content for everyone, no dark patterns, no ads, support our family, and keep my stress level to a reasonable level so I can hopefully remain healthy and continue to work on renshuu for many, many years :)
