Although things have been a bit quiet with the renshuu family's move to Japan, below is a list of all the features, improvements, content, and fixes made in the last couple of months!
Features
- renshuu pro users can now access their Text Analyzer texts inside of the Japanese Index!
- When writing new lessons (lists of terms), it will auto-save a copy of your list in case you forget to save it, and will prompt you to resume it when you return.
- If you are using one of the lesson-by-lesson schedules, there's a new way to use Focused Review to review specific, previous lessons. Great if you want to review for a textbook lesson for a test!
- You can now filter the types of usage notes that appear for words, including limiting it to only ones you've written.
- Grammar markup feature is now live for all! When mousing-over/tapping words in sentences, get grammar info on over 800 grammar expressions from renshuu's grammar library.
- New setting (search for Mastery in settings panel) to disable randomness introduced to timing of future reviews when custom mastery levels are present.
- Kana mnemonics added to the intro page for schedules!
- New setting on Text Analyzer to show term (in reader) using kana if it was written in kana in original text
Improvements
- On kana introduction, audio buttons available for sample words
- Better images generated when tapping image button for kanji mnemonics
- There is now a profile link available on your dashboard so you can see your own profile
- When trees in Kao Garden fully grown, schedule will be removed, and details on tree are cleaned up.
- Learning Pace setting now available for schedules built around fixed lessons
- Jumble quizzes better handle loose placement of adverbs
- Jumble quizzes do a better job letting you know if you get an alternate (but correct) version of the answer.
- Animation fixed, tooltip fixed when going off the right side of the screen
- Began visual cleanup of grammar library pages (number of tabs, study button, sentence practice form, usage note layout)
- "Days in a row" quests now show current streak
- If you have definitions shortened on mobile (Mobile setting), a button will now appear to let you expand it to see the full definition.
- In Dashboard settings ("Rearrange dashboard"), added ordering and visibility settings for schedules.
- Better pet/kao placement in Kao Garden
- Various fixes on Write to Reinforce feature
- Feedback box on Grammar parser removed on new terms page
- "Return to quiz"/"End quiz" now works with new terms page as well.
- Shiritori better handles words sent in simultaneously by multiple users
- Crosswords can be zoomed with mouse wheel
- On mobile, easier to customize settings on vocab quizzes in Lesson Center
- Better checking/warnings in place for question corner to help decrease low-effort sentences
- Grammar library search does a much better job when searching on non "base" forms of the grammar expression
- Worksheet download page remembers last-selected page size.
- Answers no longer hidden for certain quiz modes (Grammar expression multiple choice)
- Sped up loading on Word Garden, Question Corner, and Haiku pages.
- Massive Text Analyzer visual improvement, grammar level added, grammar markup added to reader (for those with it turned on in Experimental settings)
- Audio icons appear next to sentences that are examples for words.
- Can click on words with audio in Kao Club finished commissions.
- Better display of answers in sentence jumble questions
- Cleaned up manage schedules page
- If you have write-to-reinforce on and you mark an answer as "mark as correct", will bypass the reinforcement.
- Moved app language setting up to top of settings panel.
- Randomness in future review schedules is removed if it is expected to come up in the next 4 days
- Setting for removing mastery level randomness expanded to per-schedule
- Added button to scroll to top of page when using crosswords on mobile/app
- Audio links added to word popups in sentences
- Small updates to haiku layout/icons
- Better drawing on writing practice for some styluses and touch devices (induction-style pens)
- Better back-button handling on the quiz finish page
- Grammar quizzes will prioritize sentences that you've seen/gotten correctly the least.
- Animated objects in garden now noted as such in store/inventory.
- Most (slowly expanding to rest of system) sentence lists (dictionary, under words, in introductions, etc.) now have a better sorting mechanism to push sentences up that are closer to your vocabulary --AND-- grammar levels. It does not match your exact level, but close to where you are based on your studies within renshuu.
- Minimum number of questions required to fulfill "daily studied" streak set to 20 for all quiz types (originally 40 for vocab, 25 for kanji)

- Let's you know if you've already bought something in the store.
- See what schedule is attached to tree without editing garden.
- You can now lock items in place.
- Land expansion added, Screenshot tool added
Content
- Kao Club care packages system has been redone for 2023!
- Several new lessons added to Pre-Intermediate under Resources > Japanese Basics. More coming soon!
- Just added grammar questions for another 30 or so expressions in the grammar library! We now have grammar quizzing for all expressions in the library!
Fixes
- Better way to jump to your hanko page and back from Kao Garden (popups no longer have issues)
- Could not add hearts to comments on user sentences.
- Cleaned up tree/schedule binding issues in Kao Garden
- Time-of-day markers in schedule stats (graphs)
- Kao coins were not displaying correctly after claiming quests (the correct amount was added to the system, though).
- Some grammar lessons were not appearing in the Lesson Center
- Chance of looping during quizzing has decreased
- Better handling in Quick Draw when game paused before character disappears
- Some flowers were not growing past a certain stage.
- Some ? blocks were appearing in the answer choices of jumble questions.
- Can now tap on stroke count selector in the stroke count arrange questions
- Writing mode works better on mobile devices with zoom setting turned on
- Better text wrap-around on long Text Analyzer titles
- Garden quest filters were not filtering permanent quests
- New texts in the Text Analyzer were having pages 2 (and onward) hidden.
- Pets no longer have "overlap" tags.
- Many new users were missing some of the permanent quests in their Kao Garden (for kanji and sentence based quizzing). They should be appearing now! If you've already gotten into studying these materials on renshuu, you might have a nice chunk of coins waiting for you,so check it out!
- Daily study streaks were not updating properly in the garden quest section.
- Grammar schedules with only new terms were not starting sometimes
- Quiz question size sometimes too big when learning new terms only and marking some as known.
- Better handling of downloads of images (mnemonics, kao garden, hanko, etc.) on iOS
- Fixed colors on bushu chart (light mode), and added in a few missing SVGs (thanks Matt!)
- Some words were not coming up in sentence parsing (Ex: フランス語, where it started with katakana and ended with kanji)
- Some of the values in the permanent garden quests were not updating. Any delayed stats will be updated within a day of this message.
- Schedule numbers improved when the schedule includes the Studypad and terms are added/removed directly from studypad.
- Same sentences appearing in grammar quizzes
- Animation issue when bringing animated object back from garden into inventory.
- Some textbook schedules had issue with new Focused Review lesson selector.
