I have a bit of trouble memorizing and reading these as they look so similar. Wondering if anyone else had the same problem and if so, what helped you memorize them more efficiently?

You can find mnemonics for kana by going to Resources -> Kana Charts -> click on the Brain icon for the kana

Alternatively you can find them in the dictionary under the user notes for the kana

Basically what I did when I was learning them was, associate the pairs that look the same with an English word, where the the kana with the extra bit came at the end.

e.g.

me め + nu ぬ = menu

wa わ + ne ね = wane

I think it's quite normal to mix them up at the beginning. You don't have anything to worry about! It's all down to practice/reading in Japanese more.

I think the devs did a pretty good job choosing words that evoke the kana, personally.

But here is how I remember them anyway:

- め: ME-gane, glasses with a shine through the lens.

- ね: NE-ko, kitty lying down/twisting around (cats are known to get into all kinds of weird shapes) (=^・ェ・^=)

- れ: ha-RE (clear weather) is given as the example and I guess it maybe looks kinda like the rays of the sun? IDK I mainly just remember it as not wa/ne.

- わ: I know that's spelled in katakana but I still remember it by ワ (WA-ni) meaning crocodile. (Looks like little croc jaws!) Alternatively something with WA-sabi which is the example given. ╮(^▽^)╭

- ぬ: NU-rie, picture for coloring in. It looks like a kid's crayon scribble.

But you'll surely develop your own system! がんばって!!

Oh! This is clever. It might work better for me because it's associating in pairs... I can forget one but still recall the other.
