You should only create an account on amazon.co.jp and add a credit card. Later you can buy ebooks on amazon and read it on kindle app. I use to do it daily. I think you don't need a VPN, just add a fake japenese address on amazon account creation, and add a second address later (your own address).

Hm, okay I already have an amazon jp account... I think I tried it once and it didn't work... How exactly did you log in to the app? I think my problem might be that I have the same email adress on my Japanese and my regular amazon account...
