I’ve learned Hiragana and Katakana, what do I do now?

Add some words and sentences to your schedule (I advise to have kanji to go along or non at all for now or otherwise this will be too overwhelming), add some interest in reading and listening (books, songs, films_). This also depends on what you want to gain from learning Japanese - general speaking includes a lot of TV shows, interviews, forums, talking to people (saving some money to fly over Japan) or to study/work there (kanji and grammar will be very significant) - so it's up to you now.

Always be inspired in learning Japanese, burn out is your worst enemy!

Good luck

Under Resources in the menu you'll find Japanese Basics, which will introduce you to basic vocabulary and grammar. If you press "Manage Schedules" on your dashboard, you can add the Japanese Basics schedules to practice with.

Japanese Basics should be a good start if you aren't already using a textbook or following some other curriculum or study plan. If you are, there are also pre-made textbook schedules in "Manage Schedules" to follow along with , or you can check out the Lesson Centre in the menu and find some custom lessons (or make your own!) based on what you're studying outside of Renshuu and what you're interested in learning.

Okay. Now that you've learned both Hiragana and Katakana, you need to start studying grammar. I see that the advice tends to be 'study based on what you're going to use it for' which is perfectly accurate. Just, you need to study grammar, regardless of what you plan on using it for. You can't start reading (and understanding) until you learn grammar. Then, you can start studying kanji and vocabulary after you learn grammar well. It will make your life so much easier!

I don't think anyone else mentioned this, but if you have cleared out all of the hiragana/kanakana, a little link should appear just below them that will tell you exactly what renshuu thinks you should learn next, and this is simpler than going into Manage your Schedules and finding it yourself.

I would say, that grammar is generally for to pass an exam officially (pass it and leave it) but for communication - you will look stupid, trust me. Direct goal should be clear, Japanese is my 4th language and one of my other languages is spoken/self taught. Just then, after couple of years of one to one communication, I've decided to pass my exam which was extremely easy (just cleared some bits and pieces).

There are shortcuts, this app - just stick to it. Find your own way and pace - for example with your level I would filter some N5-N4 words lessons (to have only the most common, you'll add them later anyway at the end) and add just one complete N5 kanji till you find this one confident enough. Grammar wise - read and make some sentences (start quizzes like greetings, ask where to go etc) no more than that for now or you will fry your brain! Then after you've done with N5 add sentences/reading quizzes and exercises. Games are useful, do quick draw now, shiritori cat after N5 words are fully done and then add crosswords and counter punch

And lot's of reading reading reading and listening
