Hi! I'm new here so, I'm configuring the tool according to my way of studying.

Trying to configuate the kanji schedule, I realized the only way to improve your Kanji Mastery is studying the Kanji alone (Kun/On, strokes, meaning, etc), but there is no option to improve your knowledge of Kanji Mastery studying words.

In my case, I can't study kanji individualy, I forget it very easily because for me Kun/On doesn't represent anything by itself. With time I realized the best way for me to learn kanji and the reading is associating it with the words that use this kanji.

in this way, I use to learn kanji using Anki creating cards words/furigana-meaning :

Front Anki Card

Back Anki Card

Like this, I can remember the Kun/On , the meaning of the kanji, and new words according to my level easily.

i proppose, (I don't know if is possible), to create a new vector study for kanjis related with words that use this kanji.

Is similar to the questions of Kanjis propose on the JLPT Test.

Some examples:

Question: しい

Answers:

やさしい

だたしい

くるしい

さびしい

Question: やさしい

Answer:

しい

しい

しい

しい

Question:

Answer:

たんご

へんじ

べんきょう

へいきょう

Other posibility is to create a vector "anki card" that only give you a word, and when you flip you get the answer (word with furigana and meaning) and you check if you could remember it (right) or not (wrong)

Thank you for considering and read all the request

renshuu, in general, stays away from "flashcard" style questions - there are a ton of other apps (like anki) that do this, and instead of repeating what others do, one of my goals in renshuu is to examine other (and hopefully better) ways to learn that address gaps in other learning platforms.

I feel that every request deserves a thorough answer, so let me explain why renshuu avoids card styles like this. With "complex" cards like this (the first image in the post), there is no way to break down knowledge levels for each of the informational elements on the card. One might be very familiar with the kunyomi of a kanji character, for example, but not the onyomi. With complex cards, though, you are presented with both pieces of information at once, and you can only rate your knowledge on those as a whole. Vectors were designed specifically with that in mind - information is presented and reviewed in atomic units, instead of all at once. That prevents less-mastered knowledge from being "hidden" away amongst other information that you already know relatively well.

Although it is not in the way that you are describing, renshuu already has the question styles that you have in your post, just in the vocabulary schedules instead of the kanji ones. Additionally, if you visit the Resources > Lesson Center, you can get access to the Kanji Kentei lists (renshuu maintained), which are vocabulary lists build specifically around kanji, following in the same order that the kanji are learned in schools in Japan.

Although this is something you did not specifically ask for, one thing I am considering for the future is a tighter integration between word and kanji mastery. For example, say you study the word しい, and you get it right. renshuu would say "hey, this is the kunyomi for , bump up the mastery level for kunyomi for the kanji a bit". This would let you study vocabulary with kanji in them, but also have numerical progress of the kanji present in your kanji (character) mastery levels.

In summary, I do not plan on making any complex vectors that contain a spread of information all at once, but I am looking into better ways to link up the kanji/vocab studying in renshuu.

Hi! Thank you so much for your answer and to be always so attentive and nice.

Maybe I couldn't express correctly my intentions proposing a new vector (english is not my mother language, sorry if I made mistakes). I just made a brainstorm proposing new ways to get exactly what you mentioned on text above. I think would be very interesting to be able to improve the Kanji Mastery through words, just like you said in your reply

Like I commented on discord help chat, I'm worry to not improve my Kanji Mastery can affect indirectly with the progress of vocabulary schedule and how the app show the kanjis on the words that I'm learning, because sometimes the app show furigana on kanjis, or doesn't show the kanji and show only the hiragana, and I think it is because my kanji mastery level.

Thank you again!

If you're not studying a kanji schedule directly, the easiest way (I think this was also mentioned on discord) is to mark them as known using the lightbulb. This can be done easily in the kanji dictionary, or you can go to Tools > Kanji Index and mark batches of characters at once :). Everything marked as known will appear in the vocabulary quizzes, sentences, etc.

Hey, sorry to revive this thread, but I just wanted to say that I would really love the feature that you mentioned here. For word schedules to increase kanji reading mastery. I've moved over to only studying the "meaning" vector in my kanji schedules and learning the readings through the word schedules, so this feature would greatly benefit learners such as myself.

On a side note, I've been planning to start learning kanji from the beginning using Kodansha and I was wondering how the furigana in word schedules are determined? If you only have a mastery level for a kanji's meaning, will the furigana of it still be shown in a word containing that kanji? I was planning to reset all of my kanji mastery for a clean slate, follow the kodansha kanji learner's course and add each kanji I learn to a kanji schedule, together with relevant vocabulary in a word schedule. If I were to only study meanings in the kanji schedule, would there always be furigana in the word schedule?

At the moment, any knowledge in a kanji will consider (as far as word furigana display is concerned) as fully known. This will be adjusted in the future to give you more fine-grained control, but it's going to be a fairly significant overhaul, so not one that I'm quite ready to dive into.

Good to know that it's being considered. I think that if onyomi and kunyomi reading mastery were to increase from word schedules and if furigana display would be tied to the relevant kanji reading masteries, this would be a game-changer for those of us who learn readings from vocabulary :)

Words schedules impacting kanji readings will most likely be added with the reading system overhaul I'm planning :)
