I don't like the Kanji feature on here so i use japanese- Kanji. What do you use?
I mainly use an app called "Learn Japanese! - Kanji Study", from Luli Languages LLC. It's a very good app that I don't see many people talking about. It doesn't exactly teach kanji (on and kun readings), but vocabulary with kanji.
renshuu is rather flexible with how you study - I cannot say that it covers every learning style, but if you let me know what you don't like about it, I would be happy to let me you know if what you're after is available on renshuu via the settings.
I just use every single style that appeals to me. Usually I rely on games, hobbies, visual memory, sentences, reading and writing. If I find any trouble in my study, it can be that I am not patient enough. See for yourself, I usually do crazy stuff like making my own story behind one kanji to memorize ALL significant pronunciations to that specific character and radicals are usually tied up to visualization. Still, don't push too much, there are so called stages where you take it easy and if something you miss, you'll get it later rather than showering yourself with worries straight away.
I totally agree - this app is good enough for your everyday practice but with additional exercises, correct?
Just reading - skips kanji writing method, calligraphy - pronunciation, flash cards and writing - reading experience and visual memory. So apparently you need to do all of these in a circle.
So good luck mate!
I use げんき 1 textbook for learning grammar and kanji and I find it easier than using apps
I have found that by writing down the kanji, the readings, the meanings, the radicals and the "topics" that the meanings are in my notebook. And spend a moment to see where they are the same or similar to the other Kanji I've learned, I find I'm more familiar with them for the quiz.
I also like to write them out grouped by their topics so if I can't quite remember the exact meaning I can see them in my mind with related kanji and therefore their topic. This has helped me figure them out in sentences more than the quizes.
Chinese is my ethnic language, so I had a headstart with simiplified chinese hanzi. i picked up traditional hanzi on the way, and came upon japanese kanji with many older style of traditional hanzi plus japanese's own new kanji extended glyphs. In short, my experience and learning
style may not exactly fit yours, unless it is similar to me in having english as first language, chinese mandarin as second language with chinese dialects of cantonese(yue), hokkien(min) , hakka(min), teochew(min) as supporting basis.
I find the kanji features here to be pretty good, and it is even better when you set the settings that display kanji automatically-adjusted for your level together with furigana. It is even better to learn kanji in context from vocab/grammar/sentence exercises too, during sentence reading. I suspect that you may not yet have the chance to fully explore the settings and features that may fit you better yet.
On the internet, in many japanese learners forums, there is a recommended book that is out of print - "the kodansha's kanji learner's course". You might find a copy around and that seems to be a good resource too.
