This is something I've thought about occasionally, as when I learn kanji on my own, I often find myself associating a new kanji with a word that it's in.
- variation of kanji -> reading or kanji -> definition questions
- similar to the sentence questions in which the word is underlined in a sentence, the kanji would be underlined and users would be asked what it's reading or definition is
- the example words could either be or not be one's the user currently is studying/knows, as I think either could help associate the reading/definition to a target kanji. Although, words already known/being studied might be more beneficial.
Idk how difficult it would be to implement, though
I appreciate the suggestion! This is not really a vector that fits into the way that renshuu breaks up kanji study vectors. The second one would not work (definition) because kanji do not necessary have a clear definition inside of a term. It would also create bleed over between one's knowledge of the kanji, and of the word (you could know the word better than the kanji, and "know" the meaning of a kanji in a word without being able to understand that kanji's meaning if it was by itself (in studying) or present in a new word (either in studying or out in the real world).
As to the reading one, I currently am of the opinion that it is better to keep word presence in kanji quizzes to a minimum. I know that other apps will blend these two together quite neatly, but because renshuu has a separate and fully developed vocabulary study system (which also is sensitive to the kanji you study in a kanji schedule), I think the benefit that it may add would be offset by confusion about where to study vocabulary, additional settings for handling what vocabulary appears, as well as how to handle mastery values for the vocabulary that did appear.
It's not impossible, but I have a number of rather large projects that I feel will have more overall value that I would like to focus my time on :)
I’ve struggled with this as well, sometimes wishing for an easier way to study the vocabulary associated with a particular kanji character. I think the best way to get what I think @かわうそ wants with the current system is to use the Kanji Kentei lists in the lesson center.
I do have plans for a "helper" vocab schedule (like the kanji kentei lists), but one that automatically generates itself as you study a kanji schedule. Hoping to release it later this year.
