What is the difference between hakase(はかせ)and isha (いしゃ)
My understanding is:
- a medical doctor, i.e. the person you see if you get sick: isha (いしゃ)
- one who has attained a PhD i.e. one who is referred to a doctor in the academic setting e.g. a Doctor of Physics: hakase(はかせ)
also could apply to someone who is an expert in their field
