It's been some time since I last practiced Japanese due to not having direct access to renshuu app/website. And because of that, I'm not motivated to practice. I really want to learn it to a decent degree, but I just keep descending to the bottom. I can recall some stuff, but not all of it.
Forgetting things is normal. The good thing about using something like Renshuu is it constantly identifying what you have remembered and what you have forgotten, then it focusses your efforts towards the stuff you are forgetting.
I would suggest the biggest key to success is establishing a routine that you can stick to. Even if you only study 5 or 10 minutes a day, you will be on the path to success. If you are having problems accessing Renshuu, one possible option is to export your schedules, and study them offline.
But, if you find it impossible to get into a routine, even sporadically studying is worthwhile, and it will eventually add up (but, it will probably won't be as efficient, and the likelihood of giving up is much higher).
I think you may be judging yourself too harshly. As far as I can tell, your retention rate is well above 70%, which is more than you need to make progress. This isn’t school, where you just cram and regurgitate for the test. Forgetting is part of learning.
If making mistakes during drills is causing frustration, vary your study routine. Take advantage of the other features here on renshuu besides vocabulary. Play the games. Try some kanji. Do some grammar.
It’s hard learning another language, even if you forget some, don’t get discouraged, you still remember something! And every time you study you make a little progress! Be positive and try to listen to Japanese podcasts, radios and movies! That also helps!
