YAAY!! The thread I've been looking for (。^ ω ^。) I just asked a (japanese) collegue, if he could recommend any japanese music, but he didnt't really know what, since he seems not to be 'to much into music' ... Anyway, his recommendations were (if anyone's interested): - B'z (agreed!) - Greeeen (...?) - Southern All Stars (...?) and on the 'femine side' - Momoiro clover z (.. pretty ... 'plastic') - nishino kana what I can add from my own music (mostly soundtracks) is: - move - TM Revolution (as also mentioned above ^^) - Pizzicato Five - Music from Nobue Uematsu (;P) - Kaji Meiko (most likely known by most -> Kill Bill OST) and entire OSTs which are great: - Escaflowne (-> Hajime Mizoguchi & Yoko Kanno) - Wolfs Rain - Hellsing just by writing this post I realised that my japanese music library isn't extremly tiny -- but still definitely too small (^-^)b I'll definitely keep on listening through this thread and hope someone might get 'inspired' by my suggestions ^^ cheers ht

That and ヘビーローテーション were like the top 2 karaoke songs for a couple years. I think the AKB48 one is still up there, crazy.

hey all, (re)found something new (the positive side of UTube-assossiation-video-clicking): Yoshida Brothers e.g. Kodo and Rising traditional (?) shamisen music kind of adapted to the 'modern' times. Let me know what you think of it (^-^)b

I don't really listen to any Japanese music with vocals, but I love the instrumental music composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto.

I love stuff that is older. Especially working in public schools, I end up working with a lot of teachers who only speak with me in English at schools, so when we end up in a karaoke after an enkai, and they find out not only can I speak Japanese (I feel better speaking English so they can work on their English or at least not give up on it like some do), but I can sing some songs that some of the younger teachers don't even know - it can certainly turn a lot of heads. I like most anything by さん Also are some others I learned just through people making the weirdest assumptions... "You're from Canada, right? You must know some random song with Canada in the title (カナダから)!" (To be fair... I do now...) Insert same thing about me being left-handed and き - although that song was actually good for making you think on your feet about verbs, if you're new the language. Of course there's EXILE - Choo Choo Train for horrible English in a song... I am not good at singing fast enough to keep up with most AKB stuff, but I love キセキ. Also... is good! Yeah... I really need to make a list as I generally don't know what to pick when I actually go to a karaoke place.

Just found out about the new group from most of the members from Versailles. After Jasmine's death, the band went on hiatus. Kamijo went on to do solo work and the remaining members found a new bassist and vocalist, and formed Jupiter. I loved Versailles, and Jupiter has a similar sound, though kind of mixed with a more Dragonforce sound, rather than the majestic sound of Versailles. I hope that I have enough money to go see them in September when they come to Saitama :)

Takayan is an artist who does hip hop and rap and his lyrics tend to be about issues like mental health, bullying, relationships and so on. He does seem to dabble in other styles but I'm not great at pinpointing genres on my own so all I can say is that his songs are can be aggressive (i.e. Desperately want a lover, Date me! Not them), melancholic (i.e. Toy, Curse) or relatively cheerful/hopeful (i.e. Bad Example, What's the Meaning of Living). I honestly find his songs very comforting and he seems to care about his fans a lot, considering he's even written songs about them like Listeners are World Heritages!

And then there's also Hypnosis Mic as a whole. There's actually a lot of lore behind it but I think anyone can enjoy the songs without learning the context behind it all. Long story short, it's just a bunch of anime men rapping against each other. My favourite song at the moment is Black Journey by Fling Posse (aka one of the fictional teams within this franchise.) but that's subject to change. I'm honestly looking forward to hopefully getting another song by the only female group Party of Words since I absolutely loved the vocals of the seiyuus in FEMME FATALE.

And there's also SID! I don't know too many of their songs just yet but I know their songs from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. That series was part of my childhood growing up so the songs Uso and Rain really stuck with me. In all honesty, if you haven't, I really recommend looking into the artists behind the openings and endings of the FMA franchise. I've already seen L'Arc~en~Ciel recommended here though so that's pretty pog!

And apologies for rambling so much. I'd even go into various VOCALOID producers but I think I've spoken enough for now haha
