I have tried to draw this brush stroke multiple times and it doesn't seem to be registering. This is the kanji:

I confirmed the issue on my side too.

Turning off "stroke direction" allows the stroke to complete.

However, it's not just that stroke affected. Completing that stroke and then turning "stroke direction" back on gives us the problem again.

Despite the implication of "stroke direction" causing the issue, simply reversing the stroke doesn't work.

.

Changing these had no effect on the issue:

- the panel size

- the grading strictness

My understanding is that the standard version of this character is . Are you sure you shouldn’t be studying that one instead?

It’s not terribly surprising to me that the stroke data for rarely used characters is unreliable, because the readings also tend to vary a lot between authorities. It’s an odd failure mode, though. Wonder what’s going wrong?

I think I found a clue. Jisho says “15 strokes (also 11)”.

I'm studying both versions just in case if I see the less common version (which is kind of unnecessary since both look similar...) Some of my studies include odd versions of kanji, and I automatically added them to a kanji lesson without thinking much of it

And yeah, I figure the rarer kanji are not reliable because most users do not practice drawing them. I was concerned that it was a touchscreen issue on my phone, but I practiced multiple kanji afterwards and had no issues. Very strange.

I think I found a clue. Jisho says “15 strokes (also 11)”.

Kanjidict also gives two numbers for stroke count: “[] 15 [] 11.” I’m pretty sure that addressing this in renshuu’s database will fix the problem. Curious where the lower stroke count comes from. It could just be data entry error in kanjidict. Jitenon says

I should add that in order for my theory of the bug to make sense, there needs to be a coding issue as well, (not necessarily in renshuu, because it could be part of a third-party library), that means the incorrect stroke count is used only when the stroke direction check is enabled. That might even be a “hack,” code deliberately introduced to get around some other issue with another character.

This is a weird one - I don't have an answer for it yet - will take more looking into. The stroke data all seems to be correct if you look it up in the dictionary, making it curious as to why it isn't accepting it.

Actually, I think it may be fixed. Please take a quick look and see if it works.

It's working on my side.

It also properly rejects incorrect strokes. And it still works when the stroke direction option is turned off.

I'm not sure how to practice drawing a kanji after I have finished viewing the new terms, so I can't verify if it's working for me It sounds like it's working, though

For a free account, I don't know how either.

.

The ways I know of are for renshuu pro:

- For Quick Draw, Salmon Island would work best.

- For quizzing, you can enable it like this:

Ah, I didn't realize the kanji practice was a pro account option... I do not have a pro account at the moment, so I'll just have to trust the judgement of everyone else.
