Hello everyone i am currently learning new kanji daily and reviewing alot n5/genki vocabulary. Now it happens alot lately that not all vocabs got its mastery level lowered after learninga new kanji. For example today i learned but all vocabs containing it stayed on the same mastery level. I had to lower then manually. The option "lower mastery level on new kanji" is set to level 1 in the settings. (I changed it now to 2 and i will see if it makes any difference).

This also happens only for vocabulary where i already know a different kanji. for example i had the already known and the mastery level of the vocab on 90%.

For words where the new kanji is the only kanji it all works fine.

is this a bug or is this how it should work? For me its a little bit annoying because i have to look through all my vocabularies everytime i learn a new kanji and set it manually

Has anyone else issues with this or do i have something wrong in the settings? Any help or respond is really appreciated

Hello!

A bit of clarification on this - it may cover all of your issues, may not:

1)It only drops the mastery level of kanji-related vectors (so kanji>kana, kana>kanji, meaning>kanji, and kanji>meaning). Since the kanji do not have anything to do with, for example, meaning > kana, that mastery level will not change.

2)Because of #1 above, it only really has a visible effect when the word has more than one kanji in it. So if you have はち, then you learn , it *is* lowering the kanji vectors down to 0% (or whatever you have set), but since you would not have studied the kanji vector prior to then (since you did not have the kanji known), it would not be visible.

In other words, it only works for compound words with more than one kanji. If you had been studying よう and got kanji > kana up to 50%, then learned , the kanji>kana vector would drop since it's thinking "hey, they need more practice using this kanji they just learned"

Depending on the vectors active for your schedule, the mastery drop may not be pronounced at all, since it it only affects a subset of the vectors available for vocabulary.

With this information, if you still think it's not bumping them down as expected, then definitely let me know a few more examples of compound words that should have been dropped down recently, but have not.

Thanks in advance!

Hello and thanks for the quick response.

for single kanji words its working fine. The compound words are the problem. And i checked the vectors they did not change. For today i have an example. I learned . I checked the word before learning the new kanji. was already know and the vectors for kanji are all on 88%.

After learning the kanji i checked the vectors of again and they are still the same. Does it take some time to change or has the kanji to be reviewed a few times more before it changes? Or should it be in an instant as soon as i studied the kanji the first time? Also the schedule containing the word has been merged a few times and contains 1600+ words (idk if this is important to know). Do words i already studied and currently arent in any schedule drop too? Or just the scheduled ones? I can lookup some more examples from the last week if needed.

edit: is new and stays at 100/88%

No, it should be instant. I'll look into it as soon as I can, and get back to you.

So sorry! This completely slipped off of my radar.
Do you mind if I shift back to unknown, then try learning it again and see if I can trace down the issue?

Sure you can do that. Let me know when you changed it back. Then i will "learn" it again.

also i want to mention that i use the Android App and Beta version of it.

Thanks for waiting. I do not believe it was a specific bug with that functionality, just that the kanji/word bindings were "off" in your account (it happens once in a blue moon). I rebuilt them, and then upon quizzing , the values for moved as expected. I think you're good!

hello again, i think its still not working correct. Today i learned . ひく went down. But す and し stayed on the same mastery as before.

I also have lower to level 2 in my options selected. But it lowered ひく to 0%
