Hello I am struggling to understand difference between なんの、どんな、どう how would you classify them, when do we use them?

How would you translate these?

•とうきょうはどうですか?

•とうきょうはなんのですか?

•とうきようはどんなですか?

Not quite.

While the first sentence has no problem, the second and third don't work that way.

To match Paul's translation, the second sentence should be:

とうきょうはなんですか?

The の requires a noun to follow. So you could ask:

とうきょうはなんのまちですか?

What kind of town is Tokyo?

Same for どんな, it's used before a noun.

とうきょうはどんなまちですか?

What kind of town is Tokyo?

That's because どんな and なんの are adjectives while どう is an adverb.

I may be wrong here, but in my impression, どんな is more formal/polite while なんの is more colloquial, but essentially they have the same meaning.
