Is there a way to get the writing quizzing for high mastery level vocabulary words set to "hint only" rather than "disappearing characters"? (like can be done with kanji quizzes) I get frustrated with the wait time, especially for longer words, like waiting for a 3 second countdown on each and every character in アイスクリーム。

Understandable.

I can definitely see how this could seem problematic initially (note my recent question "返事 vs 答える"). But then again, the number of characters needed for the answer would be further hint to the word, i.e "to answer, to reply" hint with 3 characters isn't going to be 返事。Also when drawing the first stroke of the first character, it's going to show where/what that stroke should be, also cluing you in.

If it could be set like it is for kanji writing quizzing, so students could implement it when wanted, instead of happening automatically as it does now for vocabulary writing quizzing, then it could be optional for those who would want that challenge.

Also, absolutely no rush in trying to implement something if you decide it's worth doing. I'm not a developer, so I can't begin to imagine the complexity it might involve. And I also know you have your hands full with more important improvements right now, like the new server.
