Btw... I feel like this is something I should already know... but in Japan they must call classmates by their last names? That used to confuse me so much when I watched Assassination Classroom, but I think I understand now

The other day, I was watching Komi Can't Communicate actually... I only got to the tenth episode though. Anyway they were like, to be more colloquial he should call Komi Shouko instead of Komi. Because Komi is her last name (well first in Japanese but you know what I mean). Do people always call each other by their family name
