I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong place.
I was going through the JLPT N5 vocabulary quiz, and I came across party, which translates to pa-ti- in romaji. I don't have my computer set to type in Japanese text because I know my hiragana and katakana fairly well.
How do I type that katakana "ti" so that it does not come out as a hiragana "chi" in romaji? Is it possible, or do I need to change my computer settings?
I'm not sure actually, I've never tried to just use romaji. Maybe it would be "pa-tei-?" If you are serious about studying though I would definitely recommend adding the Japanese setting to your computer. If will only help your recognition of characters! Even N5 has 80 kanji (I think) which you will need to know for the test.
If you want to type party in katakana, it would be like this:
To make a small character, first press "x" and then the character you want. So, party should be pa - te x i -.
There is technically no such thing as katakana for the sound "Ti," so I'm not quite sure what you want to do here. In actual script (really, avoid romaji at all costs), it is "Te" and then a small "I" sound put together. Thus, ティ. To type the small ｲ, simply press "x" while you enter in the character, and you'll get ィ. Voila!

I am aware that there is technically no "Ti" in hiragana or katakana, but the borrowed sound is written that way in romaji.
I appreciate that a newbie shouldn't use romaji for studying, but trust me when I say I don't really need the hiragana or katakana writing practice. With the IME interface, I'm entering the romaji equivalent anyways. At this point, it's all about the individual kanji and reading vocab written correctly in kanji.
