So a few hours ago something interesting came into my mind. 2 years ago I didn't know anything about Japanese but now I'm sitting here, being able to understand a lot already and not thinking much of it. But that actually a huge progress, isn't it? I'm sure I'm not the only one not noticing that progress we make while we study for months and years. It somehow just comes with time. I can't even remember how much I could understand, read, etc. just a half year ago.
So basically my idea was making this thread where you can share/track how much and what you already know in japanese, what you struggle with and what you want to reach within some weeks, months or at the end of the year. You can come back in some weeks or months and check how much you've improved since then.
For example you can do it like this:
05.19.24
I know around 3k Vocabs, when I read texts I can understand a lot but I struggle with complex sentences sometimes and I struggle a lot with speaking.
At the end of the year I want to be able to form sentences without thinking much and I want to reach 5-6k vocabs.
Feel free to post here like I said and don't forget the come back! :)

Good idea! I don’t know if there’s already something like this, but I would love to try it here anyway!(๑>◡<๑)

Oh! I'm glad you'd like to try it
OK, let's do this!
I know about 300 vocab and am at beginner level n5 in grammar. (ik i'm a noob, but I've been studying for only 3 months)
my goal by next year is to have a vocabulary of at least 2-3k and to be n4 or 3
that would be super dope!

I'm already working through N3 level terms, kanji, and sentences, and I'm making good progress. I'm still slogging through N4 level grammar though. In two months I'd like to know N4 concepts extremely well. I've already made lots of progress in the last few days because I was dissatisfied with my stagnating grammar. I'd really like to be a capable reader before the summer is over. Learning enough to start reading has always been my long term goal. It'd be nice to be comfortable reading the intermediate book club recommendations.

I'm between levels N3 and N4 and have studied the kanji kentei level 10 kanji. I'm currently studying the level 9 kanji. I know most beginner vocabulary, and I'm trying to improve my grammar through lessons and YouTube videos. I also am trying to study more sonkeigo and kenjougo so I won't totally fail at being polite (≧∇≦)I hope to have some conversations in japanese with my half-japanese friend sometime soon! By the end of this school year, I'd like to know both level 9 and 8 kanji. I hope to be able to speak smoothly at least a little bit and gain confidence in getting some words out of my mouth instead of just singing J-pop XD. I also want to use the text analyzer to translate my favorite songs and study their vocabulary. I want to be able to watch some simple Studio Ghibli movies and understand them by the end of the school year too. I also would really like to be able to identify more food items in the grocery ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶ If it's even possible for me, I think it would be cool to cook something with a recipe in Japanese!
Wowwwww! today I was listening to a song that I knew the lyrics for and realized what one of the words actually meant, and not just from looking at the translation
That's great!
