Is there a way that I can get a word containing the kanji I'm being quizzed about in those cases where it asks for the kanji and only gives the onyomi reading? It's really really hard that way around. I will usually enter a wrong kanji with the reading first and then it will give me a collapsible hint where it provides the meaning of the kanji. But I think it would be less frustrating to just give a word from the beginning. Like when they ask for , instead of just saying "write the kanji for the onyomi reading ケン" it would be great if it also said "as in ケン". Did I miss a checkbox or something? Or are the rest of you such geniuses that you can hear some onyomi reading and just immediately know what is being talked about? ^^" I feel without context it's already pretty challenging with the kunyomi, but onyomi?! I would love to better learn the onyomi though, so I don't want to just not be checked on that. In the multiple choice quizzes it works better obviously ^^"

and while I'm at it, is there a way to be asked about the writing of the kanji without the questions about the number of strokes? I mean that really helps with my correctness ratio, but it feels kinda pointless to me.

It sounds like you have a lot of non-default question types enabled, so I'd suggest going through your schedule settings and unchecking everything, then only enabling what you feel is useful and works how you want.

All reading-related questions have the option of being fill-in-the-blank or multiple choice. For onyomi→kanji questions, it's best to set that to multiple choice to avoid the issue you're describing with having to guess between several dozen possible kanji for each reading.

There ARE question types that give you words (kanji crosses and complete the vocab), but they are pro-only. There are also writing questions that are pro-only.

Questions about the number of strokes and the radical are basically only useful if you're preparing for something like the Kanji Kentei exam, or you do all of your lookups in old Japanese paper dictionaries. For the vast majority of learners, there isn't a point to studying them and if you aren't motivated by those questions you should turn them off.

Thank you, maybe I should get renshuu pro then.

All reading-related questions have the option of being fill-in-the-blank or multiple choice.

Where is this option? I cannot find it. : (

maybe in that place I will also be able to deactivate the stroke questions without disabling being asked how to write a kanji. This is the most important practice for me, because my head will otherwise ignore the details of a kanji and just be like " , ? Aren't this the same kanj?" So I am forcing myself to pay attention by having to write the kanji myself. I like this feature in the highest level of Quickdraw, but the animation time in that game is annoying me a bit and it obviously doesn't have a feature where I can repeat kanji I'm struggling with more often. So I basically just want my kanjireview to sort of work like Quickdraw ^^"

In your schedule settings, expand the "Readings" heading and there are 2 sections for multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank. Just disable the onyomi fill-in-the-blank and enable it under multiple choice instead.

Renshuu Pro also has a mode in Quick Draw to do sets based on your schedules to practice with, so you can make custom levels with just the kanji you want (:

If you haven't already, after your account is active for a little while you will get an inbox message with a free trial of Renshuu Pro. I definitely recommend getting comfortable with using the app and your study routine, then enabling the free trial when you have time to dig into the new features so you can judge how worth it Pro will be to you.

Ah! I always went into the advanced settings and didn't realize that these fields expand! Thank you thank you :D

I got my renshuu-pro-mail 3 years ago, but back then renshuu was too hard for me and I didn't even try it. Now it seems a good level and I enjoy using the program, so maybe I'll spring for it, also to support the people making it. It's a much nicer place than duolingo and I paid for that, mostly because I was so annoyed by their "losing lives when making a mistake"-system (and then they purposefully sneak in English blocks that look similar to the blocks you should be using, as though they need to test my English proficiency...) and it feels like renshuu is getting "punished" for not stooping to their level.

anyway thanks again : )
