Forums - Is there a way to force terms in a schedule to appear in quizzes?

I keep having this issue... I'll have terms that most vectors will be at maybe 50-100%, but will have 1 or 2 vectors at 0%, so they remain at mastery lvl 1 in my schedules. What is frustrating me is that they generally either never appear in the quizzes, or when they do, it's to quiz vectors that are already at a high % rather than the vectors at 0%. Is there a way to force these terms to appear/quiz on the 0% vectors?

Here's an example. This one is stuck in mastery lvl 1 in my Words for Beginner Japanese schedule.

For whatever reason, it will not quiz for meaning→kanji and kanji→meaning, so it remains stuck in the 1 mastery column. I'd prefer not to manually change the mastery % on those vectors, if possible, but I'm feeling like it may be the only way to get it "unstuck".

Edit: To clarify, I DO have the meaning→kanji, kanji→meaning vectors checked. It's not that. This seems to be the only term in this particular schedule doing this at the moment.

Do I understand correctly that you have eight different vectors enabled in the same schedule? If so, perhaps there’s a bug associated with having too many vectors.

How would a vocabulary schedule know which kanji to quiz in the kanji vectors? You probably don‘t want all vocabulary kanji to be quizzed. It could be 2000 at once.

So I assume (don‘t know for sure) the kanji needs to be in some kanji schedule and not known to be quizzed. I would expect unscheduled and known kanji to not be quizzed in any schedule.

If you have the vectors enabled and have the kanji in the word studied, it may be a bug, in which case you can test it by making a new empty schedule just with the problem terms in it, with only your kanji/meaning vectors enabled. Those 0% words should become available to study by the next day when they're isolated, if not, you can report the bug to マイコー using the ? button in the top bar and point him to your already-made test schedule.

If they DO come up to study in the test schedule, that means you just have too many vectors enabled and/or too low a study goal in your main schedule, and certain vectors just haven't had a chance to appear yet. You can address this by going into your schedule settings and setting the slider to "Prioritize weak terms" to move them to the top of the pile, and under "Vector handling" allow multiple vectors on the same word per day to keep them from being delayed by other vectors.

Sorry I never replied, I never got notified of any of the replies to this question. I just noticed today that I'm still having the problem, so searched for my question to post again and saw all these replies!

I don't think it's the number of vectors because it's the only term in this schedule that has this problem. All of the other terms have progressed past 0% on all vectors and appear to turn up in quizzes when they're due.

This one term, though, stays at mastery lvl 1 with 0% on 2 vectors, and never "turns red" or appears in quizzes.

Sorry for my late reply... I was never notified for any replies to this question.

I took your advice and created a test schedule with only the one word and the 2 vectors selected. It did not come up as ready to study, but maybe it will tomorrow.

I haven't seemed to have any issues with the number of vectors with other terms in the schedule. They all seem to go through every vector, except this one.

If by study goal you mean number of terms studied each day, I have that set to cover all, or almost all, of the terms that come due to study each day. I'm a bit OCD, I guess, and have calculated the number of terms at each mastery level against the frequency they will appear for their level and set terms per day accordingly so that (at least once they've all run through once after the calculation) the terms get timed in a way to get evenly spaced for around the same number of terms each day.

Sorry, TMI, but TLDR I've put a lot of thought in how I set my schedules.

I do have all schedules set to prioritize weak terms and to allow multiple vectors each day (for a new term, it will come up repeatedly that day until all vectors have been covered once and it goes up to mastery lvl 2). I also have the slider all the way up to mix in weaker terms in the quizzing settings from the main renshuu settings menu. It seems this is the only term doing this, so I'm completely at a loss.

Thank you for your response. To answer your question, the vocabulary schedule will test the selected kanji vectors (reading, meaning) only for the kanji in the vocabulary words you are being quizzed on. So it isn't the onyomi/kunyomi readings and meaning of the kanji itself that's being quizzed, it's the reading (pronunciation) and meaning (definition) of the word itself.

For instance, using the word that's the issue in my question here, the quiz for the "kana→meaning" vector might ask for the definition of つとめる、but the "kanji→meaning" vector might ask for the definition of める。(One tests the word with kana only, the other tests the word with kanji in the word.)

I hope this helps you understand how the kanji vectors in vocabulary schedules work.

Additional note: I just did a focused review for the schedule selecting "lowest mastery" and got 10 terms that were lvl 3, but not this one that is lvl 1, so I'm not sure the schedule recognizes it's there. I'll experiment more.

Also, I looked at the percentages again. I originally posted this question 27 days ago and the percentages today are exactly the same, so it's not quizzing for any vector. For lvl 1, it should be in the quizzes every day until it reaches lvl 2, according to the number of days I have each lvl set to review.

I also removed the term from the schedule and added it again, reset renshuu, but no change.

This has been (is being?) handled via DM messages, but I did want to post a message here to let others know it's being looked into.

Was this ever solved? I am having a similar issue but with Kana. When I first started I marked か as something I already knew by mistake and it of course never came up in quizzes while I leveled up the mastery for all other kana. A couple weeks ago I unchecked the eye thinking it would come back up, but it just doesn't. It behaves exactly as OP described. I am mostly literate in kana now so this isn't the end of the world but seeing that one letter have 0% mastery when the others don't is a little frustrating.
