I'd love to join renshuu's Discord, but I'm always pretty anxious about large online chat groups, so I'd like to know how safe the server is (ignoring the security of Discord itself). Is there moderation, either by bots or people? Is swearing banned or kept to a minimum? Is vc or even camera required for most events? The community in the forums always seems very nice, is it the same way on Discord? Thank you!
I'm in the discord server, and it's totally fine. Don't be worried, since everyone there is super supportive, and yes, there is moderation. VC isn't required, and camera isn't really used as far as I have seen. Don't worry, the discord server is totally fine to join, I've seen minimum swearing. I would encourage joining since there's events that take place which can help you with learning Japanese.
There are many moderaters (including マイコー), with varying degrees of moderater abilities. I'm sure you already know you can block everyone from certain servers from being able to DM you. There is swearing, not a ton but it's not against the server rules as far as I know. I don't know about in the VC events, since I don't join them ever. I know you don't need voice chat if you don't want to and definitely not video. I would say there is more freedom than here but it's still kept in check for sure
There are auto-mod things set up that block some things, and we do have a group of moderators.
1. There is some colorful language, but it is FAR from common, and almost entirely contained to the two general-chat channels. Because it is more conversational, we have a lighter touch in regards to content, but NSFW materials are strictly disallowed.
2. As noted, VC is not required, 100% optional, and even if you join a VC event, you can just sit there and watch quietly.
And, as others do, if you ever feel uncomfortable about any topic that is brought up, just let a mod know. We're strictly a "no drama" server, so if people are talking about, for example, personal issues, we direct them elsewhere.
