Hi! I'm making a dessert for a new year's eve party tomorrow, and I thought it'd be fun to write happy new year in Japanese on the cake since the food is supposed to be Japan-themed. But since I'm a beginner with very limited knowledge I don't know how I would write it. Does anyone know what would be appropriate? :)

New Year's = お正月

It should be fairly easy to write

Happy New Year's = 明けましておめでとうございます

But it is a bit too long and difficult to put on a cake, so you could go with the abbreviation:

あけおめ

I learned there are two ways to say happy new year. There’s いおを which is said between dec. 26 and 31. From january 1 to the 6(?), けましておめでとう is said. I hope this helps kao_great.png
