Struggling with words for very and amount words.
たくさん vs いっぱい
and
とても vs めっちゃ
are giving me the most trouble right now. What's the deal with these?
めっちゃ and とても both mean "very" or "extremely"
めっちゃ is more casual and colloquial.
とても is more formal and standard.
たくさん and いっぱい both mean "many" or "a lot"
いっぱい is more casual.
たくさん is more standard.
I guess you could say that とても and たくさん are "safe" and "all-purpose".
いっぱい and めっちゃ (especially) are more casual and good for chatting with friends.
They can't always be used interchangeably though.
お腹がいっぱいです。
お腹がたくさんです。
