I have like 2 weeks not studying japanese, sometimes i think is it worth it? How am i gonna use it if i already know 2 languages? And sometimes i think i wanna learn it, but i loss my inspiration really fast, bc i know is hard, what yall do to prsctice everyday and the next day have the same motivation to keep practicing everyday?
If you’re not studying for a test, it’s really easy to lose your motivation, but that’s okay. There’s no time limit. You can always come back when you’re interested again.
I implement my daily studies into my usual routine (although I’ve been struggling lately because of college). Even just a little everyday can help.
First, before losing motivation, I try to only do the minimum every day. Even if it means studying no more than 5 words per day.
It should as the same level of effort as eating or brushing my teeth or taking a shower. No more than that.
Before learning japanese, you need to learn "how to learn and find a right balance". And prove to yourself by doing it for some time without stopping.
You will always be able to improve it or change it later. But you need that foundation. Also if you feel that you're getting demotivated, you will always be able to return to that "backup" daily routine.
It's also really important that you only do the minimum at the beginning and it should feel like you're not really practicing everyday/spending effort to do that. Because if you spent too much effort, you will expect result. And result unfortunatly don't come quickly when it come to learn a language. So it's better to have that minimal routine at the begining rather than studying too much, demotivate yourself and end up questioning yourself with some "why am I doing that? Is it worth it? etc"
Don't hesitate to remove difficulty too (or even annoying part). Grammar is too difficult? Remove grammar for now and just study words for the time being. There are some difficult word that can you can't remember? Block them. It's not a problem. You will be able to study them later. But if you lose your motivation and stop studying, you won't.
Don't worry about not being able to do too much too. I went from 5 words per day to a hundred at some point. Not really a good btw, it's better to do various exercices rather than one type of exercices only. But don't think about it for now.
Oh and if you fail and still end up losing your motivation. Go back to your daily routine, reduce the number of words you're learning or just take a break. It can even beneficial too. I made progress by taking break a few time. It's just mean your brain need to process the thing you've learned before more. It's really slow at the beginning and it's just normal.
Anyway, good luck!
頑張ってね!
I am being honest, I dont learn every day. You know, that is okay. You cannot build a habit going all the way and crash and burnout afterwards.
My motivation is that I like to play games such as harvest moon/animal crossing and say oh look that is a japanese vegetable that I know from my studies. So I use the renshuu dictionary a lot, every time I look it up and learn so much from it.
Another motivator: I love the food, so I try to understand menu's like tamago sushi or different ramen types.
Or try to pick up a Japanese hobby? How cool is it to buy some ink and paper and learn kanji by caligraphy. It was not my thing but who knows it works for you.
Aside from Japanese, I'm also learning Korean. If I got bored at Japanese, I'll switch to Korean and vice versa. I'm learning both since I frequently watch Korean and Japanese content, so picking up something you like is definitely a good motivation. Even anime Jdrama or Jpop will do. You can also pick up some familiar words while you're watching or listening
and I agree with the comments above. It's okay to do a little per day, answering like 1-5 questions and end quiz. Definitely better to do just 1 question everyday than forcing yourself to do a lot and feeling burnout. I also have some break day where I dont touch Korean / Japanese at all, so I dont feel overwhelmed. Perhaps if renshuu's repetition style isn't working for you, you can explore other website/app that suits your learning style better
I maintain my motivation because I like Japanese, I have fun learning it, I do things in Japanese that I enjoy, and I want to understand Japanese better so I can enjoy those things even more.
This may sound harsh, but if you don't want to learn Japanese, then don't learn it. It's fine to not want to learn Japanese. Unless you have a very specific job that demands it (e.g. translation, diplomacy, asian studies, working with Japanese customers) then you don't need Japanese. You can live a happy and fulfilling life without understanding a lick of Japanese. So if you don't need Japanese, and you don't enjoy learning it, then it's pointless to keep going. Dedicate that time to doing things that you do need or enjoy. Life is short, after all.
