Hi all,

I was exporting my N5 Sentences so I can study them when I'm offline. However, I've noticed that some of the translations are not in English.

Example:

d5814c3f3046829c14fa68f4.png

How to replicate the bug: How I got the bug:

Export All N5 Sentences. (Basic option)

f6a29543d19b853c4d647493.png

Click begin export

or try to export lists that contain these sentences:

えてください。

はどこですか?

どこにんでいますか?

The resulting export file will contain:

えてください。 - Por favor, diga-me seu nome.

はどこですか? - De onde você é?

どこにんでいますか? - Onde você mora?

The bug can be replicated in both web version and IOS version using this method.

My language settings are all in English.

Thanks.

Hi, did you get it fixed? I can't replicate the bug on my end. In fact I can't get Portuguese for those 3 at all, even if I try.

えてください。 - Please tell me your name.
はどこですか? - Where are you from?
どこにんでいますか? - Where do you live?

Still in Portuguese haha.

Maybe it's something about my account?

I test some more, seems like it is N5 sentence list specifically, not all lists. Sorry about that.

Did you try it on N5 sentences list or your own sentences list?

I try exporting using my own sentences list and it is in English, so it isn't much of a problem now.

Here's some more sentences:

えてください。 - Por favor, diga-me seu nome.
はどこですか? - De onde você é?
どこにんでいますか? - Onde você mora?
ですか? - Quantos anos você tem?
はいますか? - Você tem irmãos?
ですか? - Quantos irmãos você tem?
いいえ、はいません。 - Não, não tenho irmãos.
はい、です。 - Sim, três irmãos (em minha família, inclusive eu). (Nota cultural: a contagem inclui o locutor)
かります か ? - Você entende inglês?
はい、ですよ。 - Sim, não há problema com o inglês (eu sei falar).
はちょっと。。。 - Não sou bom em inglês.
フランスめますが、せません。 - Sei ler francês, mas não sei falar.
ですか? - Quais são seus hobbies?

どんなをしていますか? - Que tipo de trabalho você tem?
バスケットボールはきですか? - Você gosta de basquete?
寿べれますか? - Você pode comer sushi? / O sushi pode ser comido?

Ah, I see. I'd never tried exporting all of them like that. Tried it just now and it worked fine (all in English). I have 600+ sentences in there (no N5 though, I started the platform at a higher level).

So, you're saying exporting all of them (140 in your screenshot) works? Did I understand you correctly?

When I export from the N5 list itself or I make my own list (with some of those sentences) there's also no issues.

If it's a big issue, you should shoot support a message. You can get noticed here, but it's not guaranteed.

I try exporting "Asking about someone (22)" from the official list (500 N5 Sentences), and I also get an English translation.

えてください。 - Please tell me your name.
いていいですか? - May I ask you for your name?
はどこですか? - Where are you from?
どこにんでいますか? - Where do you live?
ですか? - How old are you?
はいますか? - Do you have any siblings?
ですか? - How many siblings do you have?

So, I might be the only one who has this bug lmaoo.

As I said, it only happens when I try exporting using the N5 Sentences list, not in my sentences list. So, it's no big deal.

Wait, I managed to replicate it. I added all of the lists in "Beginner 500 (N5 Level)" to a single new Schedule and when I export them from there I get this:

5166a9ca7a30c4e699100efe.png

When I do the same with my N3 Sentences Schedule "JLPT N3 (Intermediate) Grammar examples" I only get a few that aren't in English, so I didn't notice.

I'll test a bit more and maybe shoot Michael (admin) a message.

Update:

Exporting seems to behave differently (almost like it's pulling from two separate locations) when a list is added to a Schedule versus when it's just a List on it's own.

If I take the "Asking about someone (22 sentences)" list and export it (regardless of format settings) I get English

If I take the same list and add it to a schedule (tested it in a Schedule by itself) I get a lot of Portuguese translations.

I managed to get a few JLPT N1 sentences to show up in Indonesian. I think it might be a broader issue. It's just that beginner sentences are way more likely to have a non-English translation available.

Woah, that's interesting, and insanely complex bug.

Thank you for the quick replies and actually testing it out!

Don't worry about it. I have a CS degree, these things are actually interesting to me :)

We can probably give Michael some time to naturally notice this post, if not I'll just let him know though a support message. It doesn't look like anything urgent, but it's a good idea to make sure they are at lest aware of it.

Thanks both of you for the detailed information. Can you try now and see if it is working for you?

I did a very limited test, and it looks to be working fine now. It's probably unnecessary to test any further, but I can if you'd like me to.
