You can turn on the "Don't learn new terms until daily review is finished" setting for any given schedule (under "more settings"). Besides that you can force a "Focused Review" from the three vertical dots next to schedules.
Yes, focused reviews were added for those users who wanted additional practice, more than the SRS provides. Be aware that focused reviews don’t advance your mastery. If you miss a term, the mastery will go down, but if you get it right it stays where it is.
