After reading a grammar point's explanation, I try to construct correct Japanese sentences. However, since I know that I make many errors, I try wherever possible to get a Japanese native speaker to confirm whether my sentence is correct or not (and if it was incorrect, I learn how to fix it). Since the people who practice on renshuu.org are not Japanese native speakers, would it be possible for us to somehow indicate which sentences have been verified by a Japanese native speaker. Maybe a button which we can click to show that it has been confirmed to be correct? It would be really helpful for me to know for sure whether other people's contributions are actually correct Japanese. Any thoughts anyone?
Sounds like an excellent idea to me - what does everyone else think?

It seems like it would certainly help to fill in some of the grammar points that have no examples (not the user-written ones), as you could then pull some of those from the new pool of confirmed user sentences.
sounds like a good idea. It would really help identify our mistakes. Before I wrote mine on paper and had it checked by a japanese native speaker before I posted it here but i dont want to keep disturbing and asking all the time. Question is, are there japanese native speakers willing to correct those sentences we make?
As for available Japanese people to help correct the sentences, there probably aren't very many but it would definitely be nice to indicate which sentences have been lucky enough to get their attention.
There have been...maybe 2 or 3 that have used the site in all the years that it has been running. So no, there probably are not any that will actually stay on the site and correct sentences.
My idea with this button is that, we, the non-native Japanese speakers who write the sentences, can click the button if we find out from a native speaker that our sentence is correct. We can do this as we submit the sentence, if we discussed it before we put it on the site, or we can click it later if we find out that a particular sentence, that we wrote in the past, is correct.
We would also be able to click the button for other users sentences if we find out from a native speaker that their sentence is correct too. I am not expecting lots of native speakers to be users of renshuu and have lots of time to go through thousands of sentences to check their correctness.
Doing this would help other people to know for sure if a sentence is mistake-free and it also encourages those of us who have access to Japanese speakers to ask them questions.
What would be interesting to me is to try and find a roughly equivalent site for native Japanese speakers trying to learn English and set up an exchange program of some sort. Maybe with some way to give out points on one site for helping with the other or cross-posting content from one site to the other for review.
Not just in this area either, there are a lot of potential options with something like this. Maybe a shared forum/chat to practice conversation or a better way to work through the subtleties of various synonyms.
At present though a button would be nice. It wouldn't be that hard to implement and you can always use Lang8 to get it checked out.
An exchange program that had validation between both sites would be rather difficult. I will consider the button, though, as I think that's a good idea.
The Japanese school I go to for N1対策 is actually a school for Japanese people who want to become Japanese teachers outside of Japan. They might find it interesting and helpful to see "typical mistakes learners make" as well as practice correcting those sentences. They already hold free 1-hour "lessons" a few times per week for anyone who wants to practice their Japanese speaking or ask any kind of questions about Japanese so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the teacher-studetns would be interested.
I could suggest it to them when I'm there next week if you think that might be a good idea?
I would love to talk to any of them if they are interested in helping. Feel free to drop my email address (michael@renshuu.org) if they would like a direct way to contact, either in English or Japanese.

I talked to them last night and they seem interested. The head teacher said she would tell the students that they had to write an introductory email to you in English though :P Let me know how it goes :)
That is too much work - unless it becomes really big (which I doubt it), I think a normal account with a hidden marker that says (let these people mark sentences) would be more effective. I've done something similar in the past with other Japanese who have used it in the site: they had a 'Native speaker' marker under their avatar, and (in this case), they would have access to a 'mark as correct' button.
I know a native speaker who is willing to help out and correct sentences on this website and add comments on how to improve. We had a discussion about this and seemed interested. As for how to go about with this, will need to be discussed with Michael (マイコー) and ask for his view on this.
