My first post here as far as I'm aware, my name is Jake and I'm in the final year of studying a BA in Japanese at the University of Sheffield. I'm in my final semester, and am looking for some advice to help me get through this okay!

In terms of self-studying vocabulary, I mainly use iKnow (not to everyone's approval, but I personally like it) and try to learn kanji via learning vocabulary (though I have finally started using Reviewing the Kanji, even though the Heisig method never really 'clicked' for me).

My biggest problem right now is learning and testing myself for grammar. I am currently going through the N1 grammar in the Grammar Library (as well as brushing up on the N2), but to be honest, grammar quizzing features on this site seem to be slightly lacking, with the grammar quizzes being completely arbitrary to the N1/2 grammar that I have been trying to learn.

With that in mind, how does everyone else here quiz themself on grammar? Do people just create sentances (something I really lack the imagination to do well!)?

Creating sentences is always a good idea, buying a reading comprehension book (I recommend the マスターseries) which uses the patterns is also a good idea. Keep in mind that half of the patterns you learn for N1 you will rarely use as they tend to be either very formal, written, or just not used that often because other easier and more common words are used in their places.

Thanks, I'll definately keep an eye out for that book.

In terms of improving grammar usage, formulating your own sentances is the best approach. However, for my exam in the summer, I really only need to work on comprehension skills i.e. recognising the grammar when I see it, formulating my own sentances might now be the most efficient usage of time in this context.

Does anyone use an Anki deck for learning grammar? Otherwise, I'm thinking I might create an Anki deck for myself based on the grammar library on here.

Hey sorry to bump this thread, but did you finally create the grammar anki deck from renshuu. I've been looking for a good anki grammar deck but haven't been able to find one. Thanks!!

Have you tried out this one? - http://ankiweb.net/shared/info/2032035930 It contains 8547 example sentences from the 3 Dictionaries of Japanese Grammar (Basic, Intermediate and Advanced), really helpful for using along with the books or after them.
