Hi!

I have recently started to make my way through the N2 grammar and, along the way, thought about making some contributions to the existing definitions I encounter, when walking through various books.

The way I do it is I look up the grammar from the textbook via the Grammar Library, add it to my schedule (or a grammar list, if I use multiple books) and then add some sentences I saw in the textbook to examples.

There are several questions I have regarding this flow:

- When I add sentence examples for grammar, I can also link them, but there are cases when the grammar is not defined fully (the same way it is represented in Grammar Library) in renshuu and could not be parsed correctly. If I put braces around the grammar pattern (the same way it is in the title), it might end up in being unmatched. Is it some current limitation for some grammar expressions (or colloquial forms)? (For example, というものだ )

- The example sentences for grammar that I add are not present in personal sentences list. Where could I find them aside grammar definitions?

- Maybe it was answered in some other question above, but, is it possible to define custom grammar expressions? This relates to, for example, ~ものとわれる which is not present in renshuu, but I faced it as a separate item in the book. Currently, I put it in a custom list as an expression, but still couldn't correctly parse when adding sentences to it.

It is largely dependent on if that grammar form, as it exists in the sentence, exists in the vocabulary dictionary (it often does not). If it doesn't, then the best you can do is to break it up into its constituent parts.

I'm not quite clear on your second question: could you show me some screenshots of where you are adding these?

The way grammar is handled in renshuu is MUCH more complicated than, say, vocabulary or a sentence, and so having users add entries is not possible. I do not expect this to change in the future, although you can suggest entries to be added (we try to add them once a year). This can be done by searching for the entry in the grammar dictionary, then using the button that appears at the bottom to suggest a new entry.

First of all, thank you for the answers and working on renshuu

I suspected that the grammar has some core difference on how it is being maintained, as the changes are only being done by you in some larger timeframes.

As for the sentences I was looking for, here is an example:

- I added sample sentences for the ものの (pic. 1) and tried to find those in the Community Lists -> Me -> Sentences -> My sentences (pic. 2). I also tried to search for them using the Sentence lookup.

In case some search would be done, here are the sentences in text form (as they are in the edit view):

- みとはいうものの、いでしい。

- いとわかっているものの、にカップラーメンをべてしまう。

- したものの、がいないのですっかりれてしまった。

As for sending the suggestions, I indeed found the suggestion options in the grammar dictionary. Although, I was a bit puzzled at first, as I went to the Grammar Library and there was no such button after searching for non-existing entry.

Thanks for the clarifications. You are correct - the sentences that are written are NOT added to any of the actual sentence lists that you have. That's an interesting idea, though - perhaps an auto-generated list in the future. I'll keep that in mind.

Yea - the suggestion option is only in the dictionary, and not in the library. I cannot say I've put much energy into the grammar library "main" page in the last few years, focusing mainly on the dictionary interface.
