So right now I'm considering buying some books for Japanese Grammar. I especially want that contains ( full grammar ); is there any set like that; tho I saw Genki and they were a hella expensive...I currently want N4 and N3 grammar books only. (no kanji, no vocab ; renshuu is enough =D)
Any recommendations ?
Thank you !
tae kim grammar guide is free online, it's written by a korean person who learned japanese and it's really clear although maybe not like perfect grammar type terminology. i am using that along with grammar lessons here on renshuu which are really good so far. if ur willing to buy a more serious physical reference book, "a dictionary of [beginner, intermediate, advanced] japanese grammar" is good i think. u can get used copy if u dont want to buy new.
If you’d like an alternative to grammar books instead, you could always check out Game Gengo’s video textbooks for grammar; they’re completely free and are made with good quality. He recently posted his N2 video as well.
I have a book called "Basic Japanese Grammar", I know that's a generic name so it might be hard to find but I remember the publisher is called Tuttle. Even though it's only basic grammar it's still decently in-depth and taught me quite a bit when I got it several years ago, I haven't used it in quite a while however so I don't remember too many of the specifics of the book. I think one of the authors was Japanese.
If it were me, I'd aim for something like a grammar dictionary. Genki, like Tobira, Quartet...those are textbooks. But there are manuals out there that work just as well. You can find them for free.
Imabi is, IMO, the most extensive. Tae Kim's guide is another (and one of the Imabi guys has some kind of beef with Tae Kim, but I can see it might fall short, for different reasons). There had been an app version, but I have no idea where that went.
Next to Imabi is Sakubi. It's not as extensive and it's a discontinued project, but it's does have some good pointers. But, there's an alternative if you prefer instead, with a pattern emerging, you have Yokubi. Basically, a reworked copy of Sakubi that's still currently worked on.
Game Gengo covers grammar pretty well and easy to follow. I would recommend taking notes though. Someone has also compiled a manual with links to Cure Dolly's videos, and it's quite a lot if you don't mind going through some 90 lessons of it. I myself have only gone through a fraction of it, but it's an interesting perspective to see.
I have a lot of other stuff scattered about but haven't reviewed, so I can't really say more. But for the ones I've mentioned, I can say that this is the sort of stuff that you might want to go back to from time to time.
