why can't you count trains with dai, if it's used for counting vehicles and machines? any nuance there? お願いいたします

I think trains aren't considered a "single unit", like a standalone machine. That's my best guess. I'd need to look it up to give you a better answer.

PS: I'm pretty sure some Japanese people do use 台 for trains, even though it's not the "correct" counter.
