掲示板 Forums - to mnemonic or not to mnemonic

ive been thinking about this for years with different things. i used to use mnemonics a long time ago, but then it would be an extra step in my thinking that i dont have time when speaking or something. it worked for things like studying science for a test though. but there was a word here i kept getting wrong so i clicked view usage notes (i have disabled usage notes mnemnoics and pictures by default), and the first usage note was a really helpful mnemonic and now I know the word easily. maybe the mnemonic goes away after time and ill just remember the word?
what are ur opnions on this? do u use mnemonics, or instead try to just "memorize directly" without them? i know every word is still "connected" to a real thing and other ideas, so nothing is true isolated but idk 
I use mnemonics for some of the Hiragana/Katana, and it helps me a lot, usually I don't even need the mnemonics after around a week of using them 
thank u both for the input, i think i will try to use them sparingly when i get stuck and then hope they "fall away" over time. and maybe see other opinion on it too
i went to write mnemonic i thought of but said word already had too many
