I don't really know if this really is a bug, but it bugged me so here I am. Jokes aside, in the pre-intermediate word schedule there is a はずがない, which is listed as an い-adjective, but in the dictionary, when you search はずがない, only がない(はずがない) pops up, which is listed as an expression. I can understand a bit that those should be listed separately, but not that when I search them only one pops up.

Edit: it really seems to not be in the dictionary, as when I linked はずがない to the dictionary, this one was the only option

Oh, and if you want to see it for yourself, I've got the both of them in my studypad for this.

There are actually three separate terms for はずがない. The tags on JMdict are [exp,adj-i] [uk], which just means "expression", "い-adjective" (because of ない), and "usually kana".

Though this is far from the only example of a word with multiple entries and a "mismatch" between what's in a list and what shows up in the dictionary :D

So it's normal that (types of)some words won't appear in the dictionary at all, even not in the "also written as" section?

Not really, I assume it's related to this: "Due to some data decisions that were made 15+ years ago, renshuu has had the issue of having multiple versions of the same term floating around in different lists" (Link to the thread)

Although in this case it looks like all three are accounted for. You can usually look up the word using Advanced Search and then see if all entries are present in "Also written as". Doesn't seem to show the spelling variations clearly though.

You can see which one is which if you open the "Report mistake" window.

I haven't tried the "merging tool" myself, so I don't know if it'd fix anything in this specific case. It looks like the Pre-intermediate list just doesn't use the "main" entry (the one that shows up in the dictionary). (ねずみ) has the same "issue", where the list uses ネズミ (that's where my usage note is), but what you see in the dictionary shows a different "main" term.

Edit: This might be a little confusing, sorry kao_worry.png

Basically, the Pre-intermediate schedule uses one of the three terms, but it's not the "main" term that shows in the dictionary. I also just realised that renshuu might not be able to do multiple tags.

The merging tool would indeed take care of it on the sense of removing all but one from your account.

renshuu cannot do multiple tags well, and so I aligned with with i-adjective, as that allows the system to note conjugations in the sentences (はずがなかった, etc.)

I also swapped the order of the two. This is not the only one where the "used" version is not the top entry in the dictionary, but that will have to be put aside for a later time.
