New to the app, not new to Japanese.
really struggling to get used to the app layout and options (I’m specifically on iOS). Can’t load the videos guides in app and can’t find them myself on the YouTube page for some reason.
can anyone share any video guides for the app?
I feel like there are so many settings and buttons and icons etc that just aren’t explained.
but I can feel the potential here and want to try to learn how to use it.
thanks in advance.

Strange that you can’t see the vids, but you should be fine without them if you read through the help. After all, I never watched them.

Renshuu is big and complicated and highly customizable, but it is straightforward to use. If you’re an experienced student, your main concern will be deciding what to study. If you’re familiar with the JLPT levels, pick a level that you’re already comfortable with to start so you can get a feel for how things work.

Some hints: there are lists and schedules. Lists are decks; schedules are made by combining lists. In addition to the options in the main menu, each schedule has many settings that you can configure. You may choose to have multiple schedules, each with a particular set of settings.

Unfortunately, I have heard a few other iOS users with the same problem, although I have not yet been able to replicate this issue myself (on iPad). Can I ask what version of iOS you're on?

Currently on beta iOS 27

BUT even when I was on the latest 26 version it still wasn’t working.

I also can’t watch any of the video lessons…which is kind of necessary for learning some things.
im N4 but never tested so want to brush up for a few weeks before moving on to N3.
but as I said the app is so chaotic with options that I just don’t know what I’m doing. That’s why I’d like some tutorial videos.

I actually never found the videos and worked everything out with time (around maybe 2 months) and heavily relied on using the forums to ask where this and that was. If there's anything you cannot find or there is a question about Japanese (even if you want to start a chat about your faveroite movies, books, games, whatever else in the general forum) , the forums are a big help with lots of friendly users and there will always be someone there to answer your questions in less than a week sometimes even same day.

(Sorry if that sidetracked a bit. Everyone really is friendly except for the less than 1% of spammers/ rude people)

Thanks again. I did try updating some code, so while it may be working better, I cannot guarantee that will be the case.

I just checked my iPad, and it was on the iOS 26 beta, so I'm going to switch to 27 and see if I cannot reproduce the issue. Apple is a big fan of changing internals without telling anyone that breaks things down the line, so that's certainly possible. Will follow up here when I have more info.

Just found some troubling news - looks like Vimeo, the platform I use for the videos, got bought by a private equity firm, and a huge chunk of their staff got laid off. Ugh.

I currently use bunny.net for all my CDN stuff (serving up images and audio) which has worked extremely well, and well priced. They also do videos, it seems. I'm going to upload a few, set up a test page, and see how well the player works across different devices. Might be a good idea to slowly migrate over to them.

Oh blimey.
im not very technical but is it not possible to just use YouTube and embed the videos into the app?

Youtube will not work, as you get very little control over the player. Specifically, you get all those "WATCH THESE UNRELATED VIDEOS NEXT" at the end, which I do not want. I did try youtube quite some time ago when I first got these set up.

I just updated to iPadOS 27, but it works on this end. I do see others reporting the same issue (for some, since years ago), so it might be some latent issue that appears in certain situations, and has gotten more common as of late.

This is a real fast test, and I haven't turned on a lot of (paid) options for faster delivery, etc., tested for all sizing, but ...

https://www.renshuu.org/index....

This is a page with just a single button on it that should load the bunny media player. Give it a shot. Just a single video, but at least we can test things from here.

that worked perfectly!

Just tested on my Mac (don't use it very often), and I can see all the videos normally on the browser version...but can't log in on the app version...it downloads the app, but then gets stuck on infinite loading screen when I click login ^_^;

Thanks for the followup info. This other platform I'm considering seems to be *considerably* more expensive (given how many lesson videos we have), so I need to keep looking into it.

When you say the app version, do you mean the renshuu app on the Mac? I do not formally support that - it's one of those things that Apple might be automatically allowing (I've only designed it as an iOS app).

Yeah, it say's "not officially supported on Mac", but just thought I'd try it...
For now, I've just made a shortcut app to the website version.
