Like the voices when your doing a quiz and you need to hear the pronunciation of the word, that voice, is it accurate to how you would actually say it in Japanese?

Quite accurate. Renshuu only uses native voice actors for its listening exercises, none of that AI nonsense. (Which is also why not everything is voiced yet.) There have occasionally been discussions about possibly regional or less usual pronunciations, but those are minor variations. For all purposes, those are real Japanese people.

I will always prefer no audio over anything-but-native audio. Although my Japanese is quite good, even I don't record my own voice for the words sentences (I'm from the US), as I want to make sure you're all getting the real deal.

...And that's why ChatGPT isn't a good idea for a lot of aspects of language-learning.

@HuyDerMuy Your number one priority should always be native audio. In this case you can try listening to either the main dictionary entry or sentences: 先生/せんせい.

PS: To be fair to ChatGPT, it does give you an accurate explanation. I think you just latched onto the part where it tries to approximate it with sen-say (the word "say", as in "they say you shouldn't..."). The rest, at least when I tested it, was very much in line with the native pronunciation. Except for the auto-generated audio... that was pretty bad kao_dejected.png

With that said, please don't use AI as a pronunciation guide. It's very unreliable.

And yes, せんせい is usually pronounced a bit more like せんせ~ or せんせえ. You can hear it in the audio. I think it's something that tends to happen with えい. You can try comparing the audio for something like 丸い (まるい) and 映画 (えいが). You should be able to hear the difference in the sound い makes :)
