PS: "kanji thing" is a bit vague. If it's not about the lessons, maybe it's about the schedules? You can add the N5 kanji schedule from here:

"Manage your schedules" (bottom of your schedules; on your Dashboard) > "All schedules" > "Beginner" > "Beginner Kanji (N5)"

Did you end up figuring it out? I'm actually not sure what this "kanji popup" could be... maybe one of those loading screen tips you get on mobile? It couldn't have possibly led you anywhere other than the beginner lessons on kanji, or the N5 kanji schedule.

I might be little out of touch with the beginner/new user experience on the platform, but I'm pretty sure you're not missing anything.

By the way, if you're a complete beginner, there's no real reason to start kanji early. Not saying you shouldn't, just that you don't have to :)

Besides that, you can check out the lessons I previously mentioned, add the "Beginner Kanji (N5)" schedule, and immediately start learning kanji.
