I’m new to Renshuu; I started learning Japanese about 50 days ago, and honestly, I’m really enjoying this journey. Now, I could really use some tips—especially for using Renshuu.
Renshuu is flexible. Extremely flexible.
Come up with a plan, if you don’t already have one, about how you are going to approach learning Japanese. Then customize renshuu to suit. People are happy to help if you can’t figure out how to do something, but first you have to decide what it is that you want to do.
If I could go back and start over, I would turn off the garden quests that say learn new _____ (words, kanji, etc).
the pace is way too fast and I followed it to earn coins to buy stuff in the garden. I've had to go back and turn a bunch of schedules off and start from the basics.
i am progressing much faster now.
welcome! This is a great community.

Probably one of the wisest among us
Take some time to think about what you really want. Otherwise, you will get good general advice that may not be good for what you really want. Someone who want to interact with Japaneses online should not study like someone who want to live in Japan. And the opposite is true too. And the same apply for renshuu or whatever tool you will be using :D
Oh and when I say think about it, you can go quite deep in terms of details. If you like anime or manga for example, list every genre. Because SF may use quite technical vocabulary, expressions, references, etc. Historical/Medieval/Fantasy may often used historical speech with old grammar and words. If you don't have a focus, the difference may be counted in years until you reach immersion and feels comfortable enough to enjoy you favorite media. Same for speaking with natives.
And when/if you manage to come up with a decision, renshuu can become quite powerful for that kind of goal (if you don't focus only on pre-made schedule)
Yes @ポールオジチャン is correct. Plus lots of points. Renshuu is extremely flexible. I got through my textbook kanji quicker with renshuu.
Basically, you can almost study literally whatever you want as long as you can shove it into a list or find the one list you want in the community search.
Take full advantage of the schedule manager. There are plenty of community schedules to choose from or you can make your own tailored to what you want. I use renshuu as a secondary tool for my vocab and kanji. Most of my grammar I do in LingoDeer. (Mostly cause I found Renshuu after I paid for a year of LingoDeer)

Thank you very much for the feedback! I want to study Japanese because I’d like to study in Japan and work there as a game writer. I love writing psychological horror stories and want to publish them in Japan—that’s why I’m studying Japanese.
Wow, big goals
Then, I recommend developing two routines starting this week:
- One formal slow pace routine to study common words, kanji, generic sentences, basic grammar (you can use the pre-made schedule or whatever works for you)
- One fast pace routine to study exclusively psychological horror stories with regular small goals.
And those small goals can be anything at the beginning. Like adding fives words from your favorite Japanese horror game to a schedule and studying them this week. It doesn't matter. What matter is that you create those routine and stick to them. And for routine like adding a few words, sentences or kanji from your favorite topic, renshuu is one of the best tools to do that :D
But again, the difficulty is sticking to them and maintaining a good balance between the two. And only you can find that balance. No will be able to help you on that.
And secondary objectives, you should never study in a tired state. Or in a demotivated state. If studying start to feels like that, fix your routines first. Renshuu have a lot of tools/features for that. There are not here for no reason. Also set up at least one day where you don't study Japanese.
That's it for me. For now, at least. There are a lot of more complicated set up/routines/features but if you struggle to follow the basic or you don't feel fully and motivated each day, they won't matter that much.
Good luck!
頑張ってね
PS: Also renshuu should not be the only way to study Japanese and everything should be connected too =p (Like playing horror game with JP voice, focusing on the pronounciation, searching those words and adding them renshuu, etc)
