I just posted on one of the other threads but will introduce myself here- I'm Suria, I have lived in Japan (mostly Tokyo) for 9 years and have been coasting along with the Japanese I learned at high school and university in New Zealand and what I have picked up in my daily life here. At work I speak mostly Japanese and my boyfriend is Japanese so at home the conversation tends to be about 50/50 English and Japanese.
My reading level for anything outside topics related to my job is not as good as I would like it to be so I am taking 2級 this year and if I do okay I will spend all of next year studying for 1級. The grammar section and the vocab in the reading section of the test are tripping me up a bit at the moment- I have been doing the quizzes on this site for a couple of weeks to supplement my textbook study and have already noticed a difference in my general comprehension ability.
Thanks so much! Must get back to studying now. Good luck everyone!
Hey - welcome to the site! I'm sure, after 9 years, you'll do just fine on the test. Granted, it's more visual based, but I'm sure you have a really strong conversational base to work off of. I'm glad the site is working for you - do let me know if you ever have any questions!
Hello everyone! I'm Paul and I'm a 2nd year student of Japanese (currently at University) :'( My Japanese classes are getting harder now. Nice to meet you all!
hehe...anyway, im studying from the GENKI textbooks solo but getting help from others who have also taught themselfs japanese through GENKI text books.
umm...i found this site through someone named JellyFishSushi(thats the name of her blog) and decided to register here. Hopefully i can meet some new friends here
Hi! Welcome to the site :). I hope you find it useful, and don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or problems! Please post in the forums; I'm trying to get them a bit busier :)
Hullo everyone. Would have been nice to write in Japanese for you all but I haven't figured out how to get this laptop to do that yet. =( Anyway, my name is Krizia. You guys can call me Zia if it's easier. I'm a college student and I've been studying Japanese for one semester. A teacher of mine told me about the site and I fell in love with it.
When I found out my school was shipping me off to Japan in March to study there for a year, I knew I really had to study some Japanese. I've never been good at studying on my own but this site makes it simple.
Hey, I've been on for a couple months, and I love this site. It's quite possibly one of the best Genki resources I've know of. I've never seen type-in hiragana/katakana quizzes online before, and to me, those are the most helpful. I always seem to have the most trouble going from English to Japanese, rather than the other way around. Anyhow, thanks for the great site Looking forward to seeing the finished 2.0.
I'm an 18 year old college freshman who is in Junior College right now. This particular school doesn't offer Japanese classes, so I have to study on my own. But I'm having a lot of fun, I have a small study group with my friends and we study at least an hour a night.
After graduation, I hope to get into the JET program and live in Japan for a few years. If I like it enough, I hope to make Japan my permanent home.
I love this site, and I use it every night to study my JLPT 4 vocab and Kanji :D.
*Why are you interested in this site? I am a native Japanese. So I don't have to study Japanese. Actually I have learned English as a second language for some years and am still studying now. *Why did you decide to join this site? 1. As I said, I am studying English, so I am also interested in people using English. When I found the people who are using English and eagar to learn Japanese in this site, I had a little surprise. I thought "I can do something to help for them. And it will help me improve my English." 2. As I said at another place in this forum, I began to learn the third language, Catalan. This experience reminds me of the feelings of language learning beginners. When and where do the language lerning beginners feel difficulties? What helps the language learning beginners? So I decided to join this site.
To Michael I was so much interested in this site. You must have a lot of passion to create and keep this site. That impressed me a lot. There are so many interesting comments and opinions of yours all over this site. I want to make discussions about them in near future. Now I feel learning foreign languages is a kind of development of my brain. It is very very interesting. Much far better than video games. That is the most valuable thing for me now.
Hi Tamiko, welcome to the site! I'm really glad that you're interested in helping; there's *lots* of ways to help with the site: contributing example sentences for vocabulary, translating Japanese example sentences to English, and helping create a fully Japanese-language version of the site (excluding these forums).
Please don't hesitate to contact me (there's a link at the top of the page) if you'd like to help, or if you have any comments or questions. I'd also *love* to see more discussions on these forums about language learning, and how everyone studies.
My name is Holly, recently nicknamed 「堀」... lovely name, isn't it?^^;; I randomly stumbled upon this site one day while trying to remember the name of another one. Between this and the one I was looking for, renshuu is far superior :D
I spent last semester in Tokyo, and am planning on entering 上智大学 this spring, so I've been using this site, along with a Japanese Speech class, to practice for the JLPT this December and keep me in shape for when I head back to Japan in February.
Love to help out the site any way I can (hence why I tried to bring this thread back to life! ww)
Hi everyone. First off, congratulations for this WONDERFUL website. It is by far the best JLPT practice site I've come across, and I will definitely pay the membership fee (if it's not over the top, which I doubt it will be)
I'm not even going to try and write in Japanese right now. I'm taking JLPT in December but my main goal is to translate music articles from Japanese to English. I also have a ROM translation project going on. Basically I am only learning Japanese so I can translate it to English ;) I am not interested in living/working in Japan but I'd sure love to stop by Akihabara someday and pay a visit to MOSAIC.WAV, my favorite sound unit.
For fans of akiba-pop and underground Japanese music, here's my blog: 電波の世界. It focuses quasi-exclusively on denpa, a hyperactive subset of JPop that strongly embodies the Akihabara lifestyle (some people call it Akiba-pop). It is commonly used for intros of erotic games; most of those crazy IOSYS songs you've no doubt encountered on Youtube are also frequently branded as denpa. Let me know if you have any questions and once again, congratulations to the makers of this FANTASTIC learning tool.
Hello everyone,my name is happypuppy. I am a Japanese おばちゃん studying to be a JSL(Japanese as second language) teacher. Through my studying,I found how interesting it is to learn & teach Japanese.
