I've been studying Japanese since spring 2018. I've also studied French, but I found it far less engaging than Japanese. At first, I was drawn to Japanese for no reason in particular, but after learning hiragana, the structure of the language hooked me, and I've been studying it ever since. It also helped that, after starting to study Japanese, various sorts of Japanese media started to pique my interest. Specifically, anime, manga, light novels, and certain kinds of Japanese music. I've finished Genki 1 and am moving on to Genki 2 with the rest of my Japanese class. I practice writing in Japanese a lot, even though I'm not particularly good at it. I aim to be able to read and write in Japanese someday.
My non-Japanese hobbies include reading, writing, sketching, gaming, and studying. In general, I like fantasy novels, especially space (Foundation, Lensmen) or animal fantasy (Wings of Fire, anything by Lasky) novels. I also dabble in nonfiction (The Omnivore's Dilemma, The Future of Humanity). I'm a slow reader. I draw infrequently. I most frequently draw cats (I have two.), disembodied eyeballs (This sounds maybe sort of weird, but they're simple and fun.), and monsters.
I tend to frequent forums and the like during the summer months as that's when I have the most time. The summer before last was Flight Rising. Last summer was Food Fantasy and Wanikani. This summer is renshuu. I still use Wanikani, but I don't go on the forums as much. On other parts of the internet, I'm known as "Tealwing". Here, I'm "花火学" as this is a Japanese forum. 花火学 is read はなびがく. I used to rather like all of the Japanese words that meant "study of x/y/x", so I made a username for the study of fireworks.
In previewing my post, a lot of spaces disappear in the second paragraph. I'm not sure why, but I hope that's not true for the actual post.
