I'll be honest: I read the post originally, then completely forgot to reply to it. I've been really crazy busy with both the site and my personal life, so I haven't been able to think about much else. I'll get to this post in the next couple days with a full answer, promise!
I understand; I can't imagine how much work writing, moderating, and managing this site alone must be in addition to whatever other obligations you have (you're teaching English in Japan, aren't you?) My bump was just meant to be a friendly reminder ;)

1. Your kanji schedule: no, there's nothing like that (yet). Basically, you'd like to take the kanji quizzes that already exist, and just add an option for direct input instead of multiple choice, right? Were that the case, you could use the IME. Is that what you're getting at? IF that's the case, it wouldn't be terribly hard to add, although I can't promise a quick turnaround on feature requests for awhile.
Yes, that's precisely what I'm proposing.
2. Vocab schedule: improving vocab definitions is given, right? If you're using a mastery schedule set to 'complex', you can hand-pick the question types you want.
Yep, I've already done that and the vocabulary schedules are perfect for my purposes the way they are.
as to 'recognizing' kanji, can you give me an example of what you mean? I don't quite follow you.
By 'recognize' I simply mean that I can read a lot more kanji than I can write (even without the aid of context). So, the idea was that I could learn a much broader array of kanji that I can't necessarily write by setting the vocabulary quizzes to display all kanji (regardless of whether it considers me to have encountered them before). At the same time, the kanji quizzes would allow me to carry out a more intensive study of a smaller number of kanji.
For example, I can consistently read 鼻 without context but would be hard-pressed to replicate it from memory. It's a JLPT4 vocabulary word, but a JLPT2 kanji. By asking me to write out its reading in the level 4 vocabulary quizzes, I'm not yet required to memorize it exactly, just recognize it. Then when I get to level 2, a direct input field would allow me to utilize my IME to ensure that I can actually write it out myself.
Oh, and if you do have time to implement this, just have it display all of the readings and English definitions along with an input field (to deter ambiguity).
