~きゃ is used in the same way as ~くちゃ (かなきゃ etc)

I'm not sure if I'm just stupid right now, but shouldn't it be なきゃ instead of くななきこ (at least that's what it says for me as an example)?

Are you referring to the example that appears in the construction version? Is it shown in only hiragana (no kanji)?

I'm seeing the example bit reading きゃ, actually - although it says なきゃ where I entered it in!

I was able to reproduce the くなきゃ issue, and it should be resolved. Edit: sorry, only half fixed. Second Edit: should be fully fixed.

マイコー I do have it set to force-show kanji; I was more worried about the extra な that snuck in there - seems to be gone though!

Yea - when I first replied, I didn't even see the double な, just the く, which is why I replied the way I did. Anyways, should all be good, now!

How would you use this in a past tense?

"Yesterday, I had to go to school."

Well, this page is the contracted form of the ないといけない / なければならない, so using this in past tense would require the longer form:

かなければならなかった。

Hope this helps!
