I am trying to distinguish the difference between 予 定 and つもり and I presume 予 定 is used when you have something scheduled and planned whereas つもり is where you intend to do something. Correct?
That sounds good to me - つもり also has usages past verbs, as noted on the grammar page :)
Is the negative form the same as the one for つもり？

I don't plan to go to Japan: 日 本 に行 かない よていだ / 日 本 に行 くよていじゃない / 日 本 にいくよていはない
That's not really a plan, though. It's more natural to say that you have no plans to do something
する予 定 がない
than saying that you plan to not do it. I'd expect it to be something closer to しないつもり for that one.
