1. How interested would you be in crossword puzzles if you couldn't fine-grain them the way you can most lists? For example, you would not be able to make a crossword puzzle for List X under Resource Y, but you could get several crossword puzzles for resource Y (a larger pool of words)? This is because Japanese words are much shorter (hiragana-wise) than English, and so many terms cannot be easily integrated into a crossword puzzle (like shorter verbs). It makes it difficult to create puzzles when the word pool is small (single list), but can work well if it can pick words from a larger set of a few hundred terms. 2. Does hiragana answers, kanji clues make sense? (compared to hiragana answers, definition clues) The weirdness would come in with a word like....食べる << the clue would already give away 2 of the three answer characters? I am thinking of introducing a few each week for now through the forums and facebook to help draw attention to the site, get feedback, and if they are well received, try to develop them to be more flexible and customizable.

Or at least I think so, since sometimes you get worn out from studying too much and need something fresh, or just to give variety...uhm, sounds good to me! :D How about mixing in some English clues for the short ones with okurigana? You know, like when quizzing: to eat (dictionary form) or something along those lines? Or how about for some of the words having clues somewhat similar to the ones in the JLPT (I THINK it was there where I saw this) where there were a group of words like: 切手、手紙、ポスト、etc. are words related to...answer: 郵便局[/color][/size][/font][/b]

Yay, sounds like fun (^-^)b A while back I was searching for some crosswords to play online and found these http://kids.nifty.com/cs/game/list/crossword/1.htm ... as I recall they were lots of fun to play. They of course use written clues (also themes and secret answers :) ), but one idea that might be worth thinking about is the blanked-out character thing. Some of the sentences have a series of circles for the missing hiragana characters that you then fill in on the puzzle. A few of the clues have multiple sets of blanks, so they might end up having an answer that looks a bit odd since it's made up of parts of different words (I can't remember how it actually worked out in the end, but I don't see why each answer has to "read" properly as long as it works within the puzzle). So ... if you can have an answer made up of characters from multiple words, maybe you could do something like "kanji term 1"+"kanji term 2" squished together as a single clue/answer. I'm not sure if I'm making any sense, but I was just thinking that it might help with getting some longer answers ...
