Has anybody else been seeing this ハス word coming up? Can't quite figure out what it's supposed to be. Here's a mixi つぶやき sentence where I've most recently seen it. はハスわり。ってやつ。 Also, this topic is open for anyone else who has slang questions.

Hmm...my go to for slang is the zokugo dictionary (http://zokugo-dict.com/), but ハス is not showing up. My original thought is that ハス might be a strange bastardization of ハウス・ワーク, but who knows?

Was able to ask my friend and he said it was for "hustler". Considering his affection for hip hop music it makes sense. ... I guess.

Could it mean "hassle"?

I asked the original poster of that sentence and he said "hustle" so I'd believe him. I've heard ハスハス in a hip hop song I like. I'll have to check if it means "hustle" there too.

It makes a lot of sense in the context of the line you posted originally. And we all know that Japanese take the very best of American pop culture to latch on to...right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU9TouRnO84 In other news, I saw an interesting slang/punny abbreviation the other day: 「かれさま」 I'm sure it's meaning is obvious, but I thought it was pretty cool.

That one is good. I've liked a few myself whether it's slang/expressions. To describe women usually (as a girl I find it highly descriptive of some women): ヤンでれ - girls who fall head over heals just because they want to be liked; super unhealthy romantic obsessions ツンでれ - girls who are super sharp and quite smart when around others but fall into these super girly lovestruck types when around their boys あげ(あげまん) - women who bring good luck to the guy she is near (for example, my friend described herself as an あげ since every time she'd date a guy, he'd end up getting a new job or a promotion, etc...) KY (ケーワイ) - I had friends tell me about this one although I haven't heard it outside of the conversation with them. It's short for めない (Kuuki Yomenai = KY) which means that you can't read the situation. So when you're totally oblivious about how people are feeling, etc... you can say that you're KY. Any others with slang they like or have come across?

Nice thread :) I use KY a lot and hear it a lot too, definitely not a one off thing with your friend. There's also SKY Super Kuuki Yomenai :) Most recently my friends have been complaining about the ギャル 「ポヨ」: http://taf5686.269g.net/article/15566544.html From that list I especially like FK (ファンでい) considering how much make-up the average ギャル wears :P

This isn't necessarily slang but more an article about the interesting use of food words 'cause I know none of us want to be considered い. (Article is in English) http://www.japantimes.co.jp/text/ek20120827a1.html
