For a new feature on the site, I want you to answer one question:
"What external, tangible resources (textbooks, dictionaries, nintendo ds games, denshi jishos, etc) do you use?"

I don't need multiple people to say the same thing, so only add to the list if no one's mentioned it yet. Please list (as much as you can):

1. Title (Japanese and/or English, both if available), edition/version if applicable
2. Type (textbook, dictionary, nintendo ds game, denshi jisho, etc.)
3. Short description (no opinions, just what it is)
4a. Picture (if you've got one) or
4b (preferred over 4a) - a link to a website selling it; I don't care where, but something like amazon.com/.co.jp, jlist, thejapanshop, play-asia - I can pull any additional info off of the site.

Stuff you purchased personally, was given, needed for class: it's all good. Thanks!

I sometimes consult A Guide to Remembering Japanese Characters, by Kenneth G. Henshall; I have the 1988 1st ed., with the gray cover, but it looks comparable to this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Remembering-Japanese-Characters-language-library/dp/0804820384/

--Oh, and of course my handy Canon Wordtank G55 denshi jisho, which I purchased a few years ago in Japan. As with most denshi jisho it's more designed to help Japanese speakers with English, and it doesn't have a stylus or direct kanji imput, but it's got a good dictionary:

My favorite textbook in the whole world is Reading Japanese by Eleanor Harz Jorden. It's a bit old, but it has a ton of drill sentences, and it's the best way to learn to both read and pronounce kanji in context that I've found.

here's the amazon page for it

There's a companion book for grammar and such called Beginning Japanese, by the same woman, but I found that to be not nearly as good.

Thanks, keep em coming. I've been working for the better part of today on these pages, but they're now 90% complete. There's 4 categories of resources that can be displayed:

..it's empty now, but I'm going to put in 20 or so today/tomorrow, then slowly increase it as people submit more info.

Simple view with ratings, number of users. In the future, will allow for sorting/searching. Can also easily hit 'I use this' to mark any resource as your own, and it'll appear on your stats/profile page:

The individual pages for each resource replicates the basic information, has user reviews, discussion, and will have purchase links to various stores as well (these aren't shown in the image)

Since the original poster didn't mention what they liked about jisho.org, I thought I'd post my opinions. It easily links together sentences and vocab to the Kanji. Not only that but it displays a lot more information than renshuu currently does (ie Nanori readings, and if you're using Jim Breen's kanjidic then it should already be included after "T1").

Here's another book to add, in case someone uses it:
Japanese for Everyone. It's a pretty fast-paced textbook. Starts with the basics, but progresses quite quickly. I used it for a while, found it to be pretty decent for my way of studying. Here's a link to amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Everyone-Functional-Approach-Communication/dp/4889962344/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1260546881&sr=1-2

And yeah, many of the study resources that are published in Japan are super expensive on amazon.com (or unavailable). For people who are in Japan it's obviously cheaper to just get it from amazon.co.jp, for those of us not in Japan, www.thejapanshop.com works pretty well.
