In response to a question from the schedules thread...
sorry if I go a bit off topic here, can I ask you guys what difference there is between Jouyou/Jinmei-you/Kokuji kanjis? :-[
Could be that maybe I also could want to split my schedules in thay way ;D
Jouyou: Everyday-use kanji. Basically, what gets taught through high school. Also what publications are typically allowed to print without furigana, as it is assumed they are common knowledge.
Jinmei-you: Kanji allowed for use in names.
Kokuji: Kanji created for use in Japanese; may or may not have been imported back into Chinese. It includes some common kanji (e.g. 働、込), some geographical features (e.g. 峠) or flowers, and several deprecated ones for identifying measurements (e.g. 籵 for "decameter", 粁 for "kilometer", etc.).
