Hi, I just joined Reshuu and I can see that it is a very resourceful site. I just wanted to know if there is an explanation as to the best way to use this site? I am randomly clicking adding lessons but i'm not really sure what I'm doing. I studied Japanese at uni and have lived in Japan for a year but that was over 10 years ago. I am now wanting to refresh my japanese. Any direction would help. Thanks Emily

Thanks for the question. We admit that the lessons manager is still confusing, and we are working hard on an upgrade that will greatly simplify it's use.

When you go to the Study Center, you will typically be presented with a screen that has nothing selected, and you can click on the "30 second tour" - this will show you the basics.

It might also be of use to start a mastery schedule - you can also make one from the study center (Click the Schedules item). This lets you dump a bunch of lessons into one schedule, and then lets the site manage the materials for you and tell you what to study!

Hi! I just joined Renshuu and really enjoy all of the resources here. I feel that I can reinforce what I have learned (and partially forgotten) as well as study newer material better. I want to review all the N2 vocab and kanji before proceeding on to N1. I read about the mastery schedules you can make with many lessons to help make studying more efficient. I tried to make vocab and kanji schedules using the explanations on this site but it doesn't seem to be working for me. I select all of the lessons for the N2 vocab, then click "make a schedule", type in a name for the schedule, click "make schedule" and it takes me to the dashboard, but no schedule appears. Can you help explain what I am doing wrong? Thanks!

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble! Please give this for me - the newer version of the site (currently in beta) has a number of fixes and improvements. You can try the beta for free from the Help menu. I'd love to see if you have any issues making a schedule in the beta version.

I tried the beta for both kanji and vocabulary schedules and the same thing happens. I am using chrome as my browser if that affects anything. I posted here and not on beta because my query started here. (I know you prefer beta issues to stay on the beta discussion though.)

Thanks again for your quick response!

Sorry to hear it isn't working. Can you give me the exact steps you are taking to create the schedule? Please include name, what lessons you are selecting, vocab or kanji, etc. Thanks!

I have tried making lists before I even study for the day or sometimes after a quiz when it suggests making what I studied into a mastery schedule. I have even tried other lessons (i.e.JLPT N1 and Kanji Kentei) just to see if it was the JLPT N2 but the same result happened. I am more concerned about the JLPT N2 and N1 because that is the content I want to focus on to prepare for the N1 next year. This is what I do from the Study Library screen.

Vocabulary:

I open the study center, check to make sure it is open to the Vocabulary tab, in my bookbag I click on "JLPT", then the "N2" heading. I then select all of the lessons (1-73S) by checking the box next to N2 (though I have tried this just with Lesson 1; 1&2; 1,2,&3 by clicking on them manually), click make a schedule. In Beta is asks me to specify which type of schedule and I click vocab. I then type in a schedule name such as; JLPTN2vocab . I then click on the "make schedule" button, the button changes for a second or so and says "validating" then changes back to "make schedule" then automatically takes me to the dashboard screen. On the Dashboard screen there is no marking under the vocabulary schedules that shows a schedule. I then click for schedules and it says I have none.

Kanji:

I do pretty much the same thing.

I open the study center, check to make sure it is open to the Kanji tab, in my bookbag I click on the "JLPT", then the "N2" heading. I then select all of the lessons (1-19) by checking the box next to N2 (though I have tried this just with Lesson 1; 1&2; 1,2,&3 by clicking on them manually), click make a schedule. In Beta is asks me to specify which type of schedule and I click kanji. I then type in a schedule name such as; JLPTN2kanji . I then click on the "make schedule" button, the button changes for a second or so and says "validating" then changes back to "make schedule" then automatically takes me to the dashboard screen. On the Dashboard screen there is no marking under the kanji schedules that shows a schedule. I then click for schedules and it says I have none.

Hope this is clear enough.
